Thanks for clarifying Dan.

Finally loaded new version.
Like a previous poster in this thread, I chose to use the "Update System" command from the global menu. This resulted in a blue screen looking like the following:

Now updating system..............................................
Error:failed to update the Oasys kernel
Update fails


Then I used the boot CD method and that did the trick.
All is well that ends well!


Again Dan and Jerry thanks for this timely update........

Ouch, yes it's also in the downloadable .pdf file.
ha ha ha......I always copied the same effect settings from one combi to another when I could make a preset of it.
However I know I am in good company for this.

I'll echo what everyone else said, & thank Dan, Jerry and everyone else at Korg for the OS update and FX presets. They're a welcome addition, and I'm happy that Korg is continuing to demonstrate its commitment to the platform. I'm not so much into sound design/editing, but I do make sequences & the FX presets are useful for that.

Hmmm, I'm wondering if its just me here, but the new 1.3.3 release dosen't actually give us anything more than what we already had (sort of)

No new EXf, EXi, EXs.

Over a whole year to make a handful of effect presets? A little bit of Karma added and a few bug fixes. Sounds like 1 person working 5 minutes a day for a year.......

Dosen't sound like too much, compared to new releases of sounds for the M3 every couple of months or so.....

Sure its better than nothing, but I was expecting more, I presume this release was released just to keep some of the noisy forum members a little quiet for a little while. (Yes this is just my opinion, nothing factual here)

Well, at least we STILL have the EXi engines, at least this 1.3.3. didn't take anything away from us, phew!!!

At least it shows the Korg have not forgottten about the Oasys.

Not just that but the M3 had a huge update last year, but in several stages.

Personally, I think Korg had the effects presets planned as part of a larger release, but instead pushed something small out now to stop us complaining about the lack of updates within the last year. It shows that Korg also see it as a small release, as it is 1.3.3 instead of 1.4, or 2.0.

I think patience is the key at the moment.

My exact thoughts!

I believe that the 1.3.3 is what was finished, and that 1.4, or whatever the numbers will be, is soon to follow with the rest of the M3 update.

Imagine what a 2.0 update would mean!!

I had the same impression as well, but didn't want to say anything and start others whining again.

I too have a hunch that more will be coming, but I wouldn't bet the farm on how soon or how much. It's based on nothing more than reading the tea leaves of what hasn't come through in this release.

To all at Korg who helped get the horse out of the barn, THANK YOU, your work and effort is really appreciated.

In other words - share some info with your fellow OASYS users, and us - we love to not only see that files we made are downloaded, but what you actually like about them/what you do with them etc.

Thanks Korg for creating the presets and also for putting the ability to save IFX/MFX settings in there in the first place; that was on my wishlist from Triton days.

I've been somewhat busy, but here's some feedback/thoughts :

1) The presets have definitely made me revisit some of the effects that I've not used so much and get a better idea of their applications/capabilities. The most extreme example of that is the Doppler effect, which I'd discounted as being for sfx only, but really has wider uses.

2) Personally I prefer the idea of presets for effects that are less "program or material specific". So EQ or compressor presets are not useful to me as presets for the actual effects. Does that make sense ?

3) One of the reverb presets made me think how easy and funky it would be to simulate room/overhead mics on a drum kit and the ambience that creates. By sending some of the output of IFX1-5 to a send with a reverb that uses the Pre-EQ to cut away all the lows, you end up with a really nice natural sound. Okay I am little late to this, but to date my drums have been more abstract and for the stuff I am doing now I enjoy a more natural sound. That preset was for the O-Verb and called something like Bright Drum Room. The Pre EQ wasn't cutting the lows quite as much as would like, so I tweaked it and it sounded great. Sidebar : Stephen Kay Tweaks Combis Professionally, that's my way of remembering the DKit IFX1-5 routing; Snares, Kicks, Toms, Cymbals/Hats, Percussion.

For EQ on broadband material, I tend to agree. I do think that there is a place for standard EQ starting points, for both special effects (e.g. telephone, radio) and problem-solving (e.g. string rosin enhancer, kick body vs. attack, etc.).

For compression, it's very true that threshold or input level must be adjusted to suit the program material, so presets aren't helpful for those parameters. In my opinion, however, starting points for other parameters may be helpful, especially for users who are unfamiliar with the controls, or for effects with large numbers of controls. I often use presets as starting points in the Waves Renaissance Compressor, for instance.

I also did a few presets for the Stereo Compressor to demonstrate sidechain usage, and for the St. Multiband Compressor to demonstrate the ways that the different bands can be set up to exert varying amounts of control over different frequency ranges. The latter takes some time to set up, so I actually enjoyed playing with it for a bit, which I hadn't done in a while.

I'm glad that you found the Overb presets to be useful!
