I dont know if there are any tutorials around as such, but if you just google fm synthesis tutorial there are loads available which may help.

I think Kevin was referring to the 9-page tutorial at the start of the Parameter Guide's MOD-7 chapter. I put in lots of step-by-step examples, demonstrating the various functions of the synth and many basic vpm/FM/waveshaping concepts - I hope that it's helpful!

Hi Dan, Yes I forgot that tutorial, but then saw you mentioned it on another thread in the forum which I have added to my post I guess just as you replied. But yes, I will have another look at that as I dont think I ever read the whole thing....side tracked yet again

Sorry for beating a dead horse, but I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with your viewpoint.

Because: In the "old days" when you bought a synth and on the box it said "x/y joystick" and in the manual it said "x/y joystick" then when you unpacked the box, inside was a synth that had a x/y joystick

On the Oasys, it says "EXf" and "EXs" and "EXi" BUT we never saw an "EXf".
That is my primary gripe.

The literary, on Korgs webpages, in the press, in the brochure was TELLING you that you WOULD GET these things.
(Which we never did)

Some other user on here wrote something like "...but we got effect type presets..." Excuse me sir, thats not quite the same as an "EXf".

I want Jerry and Dan to sit in their basement at night and program this elusive EXf and then start a new thread with a link to this download

Now the second thing is the Function button "reserved for future use", again some other user (or perhaps the same dimwitted one) wrote in here something about "its in the service manual" or "to be used in service mode".
Excuse me sir, but ahem, "service mode" was not the intention, according to the MANUAL about its function.

I wish to feel humiliated and humbled as soon as Korg releases the promised EXf.

Overall, yes the Oasys is terrific as it is and I certainly won't want to part with it, unless it was to buy a new kidney or lung.

Rocness, you know, each synth engine sounds quite different from each other.
AL1 and LAC-1 are like sonic cousins.

MOD-7 is as different as the others, as say STR-1 is to HD1.

Whats nice is that you can bring in your own input into MOD-7, so you're not limited to for example HD1 internal sound sources.

Wait a minuet , if that's the case we don't have to be sad about No more sounds for Oasys ,we can make some type of database of sounds right. I always love the Waldorf Wave sounds , sweet pads ya know. Would it be possible for someone to make a Waldorf bank of sounds for Mod-7 (?) or maybe it's not quite like that.

I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool if you could patch some kind of analog filter(bank) into Oasys and run Waldorf samples throw it. It would turn Oasys into some kind of new hybrid synth ! Wouldn't that be cool !

No, he means "Input" as in your Waldorf samples (other synths, ROM, RAM, your voice, guitar, etc.) into the MOD-7 oscillators and filters! Oh, it does DX-7 programs, also. Kevin has about 70,000 of them on his site that he shares.

Oh....and I also want Mike to make another DVD instead of his dibble dabbling on this forum in his Yale styled American

I've recently bought a Yamaha SY77 in great condition. FM etc sounds are stunning. Came with a DVD containing 80,000 SY patches.

And cost less than MOD-7. So I get great FM/AWM2 sounds with superb third party programming and the very best Yamaha DX sounds and Korg don't get any more of my money.

I got tired of this "Binary world of fighting", where one side says "get over it" and the other "cries for crying sake" and decided to make my move. A "heretic" one And bought myself a PC3K8 a couple of days ago for next to nothing, way cheaper then I expected. Now I can sell my K2500R and focus on PC3K8 as it can load pretty much anything I want from the Kurzweil world and be a superb complement to OASYS, Trinity and Z1 that I already have. M3-M is also going to be a goner soon. It's getting almost no usage time so it's not worth having on the table doing nothing.

From what I can tell, and I've done extensive sound-soul-searching, took my time and spent hours and hours on the subject... PC3K8 has just freaking superb orchestral sounds, pretty much everything from strings to woods and reeds. Also, a very good Kurz piano. These are areas that I found to be lacking in the OASYS, so now there are no problems for me anymore. Got tired of Eastwest and other software (unstable, often unusable with worst forum and support in the history of man kind), disassembled all of the "on the side computers" that I used for their and other samples, and decided to focus on this setup. Having samples in a dedicated computer compllicated my setup to no end and made my life a living software hell with always something to do maintenance with, repair, reboot, and whatnot. So now, it's my Mac Pro, synths, and me.

The only thing I kept computer-wise is a P4 with OASYS PCI. That's never going to leave my studio, ever, period.
