Don't get me wrong, when you use MOSS, you understand what makes it special. But, since MOSS has come and gone, KORG have taken the best parts of it and continued to develop it and replaced the other parts. I would think if KORG thought that MOSS was still the best modeling they had, they'd still be using it. But since they have developed modeling since then, they feel what they have now is better. I'm good with that.jimknopf wrote:Frankly, I don't even guess what all this completely outdated MOSS nostalgia from some of you should be good for. Visit MOSS in the Korg museum, make some nice photos with MOSS and your relatives, have some snacks and shed some tears.
Nothing will be as it was (Nada sera como antes).
Tragic...
If you want MOSS, buy a Z1 or a MOSS card and move on. Everybody else did.
Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha).
The desire for MOSS isn't merely nostalgic. It makes certain sounds in a special way through physical modeling that has not yet been entirely equaled or surpassed by OASYS, M3, KRONOS, Radias or anything else Korg has done since. Newer hardware doesn't imply better software. OASYS and KRONOS are getting closer to MOSS, but it doesn't look like its there yet. KRONOS will benefit by providing better instrument models than MOSS, and more instruments model besides. If Korg has similar or better models than all of the MOSS models, then I'll sell my Z1, TrEX, and R3 to put towards a KRONOS, not before. I vote with my wallet.
I tried to replicate some M.O.S.S. leads last night, many I could, a couple I couldn't. But like some of the non-M.O.S.S. patches on my Triton, some I can replicate, some I can't. I learned to deal with the M.O.S.S. transpose bug because of the circumstances with the main developer dying. We have to do the same thing with seeing M.O.S.S. II. And like I said, as a M.O.S.S. owner, I *DO* understand what makes it special. It is unmatchable in some areas.
The same can be said for true analog though. And there's a reason why the Korg analog nerds aren't on here every day complaining about new V/A's and no new Analog poly synths. They've moved on.

Development never happens straightforward, instead you have the classical step backward and two steps forward. So sometimes you lose an old characteristic you like, but that doesn't mean the underlying technology isn't outdated meanwhile. Often you just have to wait until the things you liked come back to life in a new context. Or you use the unmatched old one right away (Hammond B3, Rhodes Mk I, Minimoog Model D etc.)
The only thing that never works, is insisting that "living in the past" should be the whole answer. It's gone. It won't come back. So it makes MUCH more sense to ask for a certain kind of functionality or sound shaping, than asking for a technology that simply died. Simple as that.

Indeed, I have tried to get this point across a number of times: it is the end result that matters, not the way it is arrived at. Perhaps Korg decided that sampled brass is good enough for most people's use?jimknopf wrote:Good example: I like good brass. But it has not to do anything with MOSS.
Sounding great would be enough, no matter from what kind of modeling

All I'm trying to say is that you won't know until you try them. The sampled brass could be fantastic on KRONOS. Although I admit like many things it really could do with some articulation technology. Apparently you can achieve many articulation-like things using the wavesequencer but it remains to be seen in action.
(I recall dan mentioning in an OASYS thread for instance that you could use the wavesequence to create an x velocity layer sample, selecting index by velocity).
Or perhaps FM is particularly good at brass sounds. It is known to be very expressive (just like physical modelling), and you do have a full blown FM engine in KRONOS that could do many great things. So why not? again it has yet to be seen in action so we don't know.

Why do you keep bumping all threadsjemkeys25 wrote:

But to contribute to the thread: never tried the Moss board myself, but everything i've heard from it have sounded great. Maybe I'll have a look at a Z1 in the future, seems easier to find those than moss boards i guess (+ a triton), or perhaps a trinity V3 (trinity for sure is on my to get list).
