Yeah, I meant to say that for the HD-1 engine, but it's been a long week.QuiRobinez wrote:The AL-1 can't use custom samples, but it doesn't need them since you can tailor the behaviour of the engine to a more analog one.

I've been very impressed with the filters on KORG romplers since the Trinity days, being very juicy and analog sounding. Pretty warm too, much warmer than a Nord VA synth. I wandered through hundreds of the HD-1 synth patches a couple of nights ago, and the improvements through the Triton and M3 to the Kronos are impressive. The HD-1 engine has a sweetness and articulation that amazes me. I'm still waiting for some custom speakers to get finished and can hardly wait to hear the Kronos through them, as it's on good speakers that an instrument reveals all of it's true character.
It is a bit sad that the Kronos doesn't have different filter models, since it's the filters that give most of the character to a synth. Then again, the Motifs don't - I assume it's the same for the XF - and that hasn't hurt the Motif sound any. And really, the HD-1 engine could stand to have a character of its own. So when Qui Robinez does his sampling, we won't be magically getting a Jupiter-8 or Synthex in our Kronos. But we will be getting a nice variety of raw waves to play with, and that should be a lot of fun, especially for a synthesist like me.

By the way, just scrolling through the patches in the Kronos, I haven't heard all that many sounds I'd intend to use in a song, so I'm looking forward to doing a LOT of programming in the fall and winter!
