navydave wrote:Awesome set! Thanks! Just one question. Is there any way to set the latch to affect the pattern on the F key on Baba O'Reiley to keep repeating? Was thinking if I could just press it once and let it go and have it keep playing, then I would be able to play the piano chords with the left hand on another keyboard and keep the patterns going with the right. And thanks again. Some great patches in here!

Edit: Nevermind. Just figured it. Check the Hold box on PROGRAM P4:Basic/Vector (although it has weird results when playing the right hand-messes up the timing of the step sequence). Still tweaking :-)
One way that might work is to scrunch the sequence and the trill chord area together so that, if you played it with your right hand the thumb would stay in place and trigger the repeating sequence and the other fingers would play the trill chords. I think it would all be playable. Then in combi mode you could have the piano chords mapped to another area of the keyboard. The four note repeating sequence resets when the key is pressed. If you're using the HOLD function, then all the other times you play a key, the sequence restarts. If I didn't have that key-reset in there, the sequence would start at random places.

Try the scrunched version at #065.
Baba O'Riley Alt Version

I do think it's kind of fun to play the part in realtime. With the Sweetwater patches for the Roland Gaia they created a sequence that just runs, which of course you could do on the Kronos. Other programs that I've seen expect you to play those robotic trills which I think are kind of hard to pull off like the recording. Townshend used the marimba trills built into the organ so having KARMA do those same/similar trills is pretty cool, IMO.

If you're ever wondering about what's in a .PCG click the OPEN button a few times instead of the LOAD. Open opens up the content. If you keep doing it you will eventually get to a listing of the programs and you can audition them without having to load them. You can also load one or several without loading the entire bank.

I must add my thanks Busch. Installed last night and stayed up way too late enjoying the "Famous Synth" sounds as well as several of your other rhodes/Clav/CP80 sounds!

Your sound design is first class! Looking forward to Vol. 2 now!

jimknopf wrote:I still think AL-1 is missing any analog warmth, and tends to sound a bit hard across the complete mid to high range. The KK shows MUCH more analog-like smoothness in that range. Among the analog prototypes, AL-1 works best when mirroring dry and/or resonant ARP sounds. In sounds with more closed cutoff the hard factor isn't too irritating though and AL-1 works well.
I sort of agree with this. I wouldn't say that AL-1 lacks any analog warmth, but it can be cantankerous and not quite give you what you want. Still, it can be a quite chameleon, and in my own programming endeavors, I have coaxed a lot of textures out of it. It can get Moogish, and one guy praised my Mini patches as some of the best emulations he's ever heard, which was a pleasant surprise. Part of that likely comes to the use of controllers to let you tune the OSCs and bring in the SubOSC, and play with the filter. I also used the Tube pre effect to add some juice on a couple of patches... maybe all of them, it has been a while.

ARP sounds are pretty easy, as it isn't hard to get AL-1's filters to sound squelchy and dry, as you noted. You can get some Curtis/SSM sound out of it for Prophet and Oberheims, and with care, the old Obie 4- and 8-Voice. Bill has nailed some Prophet 5 patches. I'm betting CS-80 textures can be lulled out of it.

Sometimes though, it just isn't happening, so I'll switch to the Polysix or MS-20 models, and suddenly, all kinds of variations come popping out. The Polysix is also very good at doing Prophet and Oberheim sounds, as the original uses some electronics from that era, and it has a whole slew of extra goodies, like additional envelopes and LFOs. Stack two for two oscillator fatness, and give the Poly's effects an audition. The MS-20 is a surprisingly warm synth, and you can get a lot of very nice sound out of it, and it layers nicely with the Poly, as some of the Kronos patches demonstrate.

It's a good thing that Bill has picked up this job because it's been a real struggle this past fall to get anything going, with a move, car wreck, illness, food poisoning! Really need to watch that sushi expiration date. :P People were still requesting sounds, and I just couldn't get the keys set up to work on anything, so Bill's work is kind of a load off for me.

Really nice patches, and shows just what AL-1 is capable of, and Kronos, when you want to replicate a vintage arsenal. :soundsgood
