OK so Mod 7 includes 6 VPM oscs, a noise generator, audio input, a PCM osc, 2 mutlimode filters and... crap I'm missing something but that's the bulk of it. you connect all of these together in a modular patch panel. So you can go straight FM or use the PCM samples already on board as well. The 6 VPM oscs can be used as sine, triangle, square, saw or waveshaping oscs for FM. It's a really crazy mod. It's a normal synth engine so all standard synth engine features apply, meaning common LFO, step sequencing, Karma etc. plus you can layer with other engines. MOD-7 layered over AL-1 etc. It's pretty wide open.

Nice! I would gladly buy a Kronos 61 right now if I had the cash.

That's what I was thinking, but sheesh if that is right and Korg markets it correctly showing everyone what it's capable of (many have no idea what you can do with Mod 7 alone)... just imagine what that will do. At $3000... I'd buy one for my feet too!

Gotta believe Korg was listening to all our gripes and groans on the OASYS forum too. Better sequencer, more patch storage, sample RAM... if these are fixed man oh man, prepare to be amazed!

Features look great but more than the features, what matters will be the sound quality and a reasonable price (with comparable workstations)..if these fall in place, kronos will be a winner.

By the trailer music, I WASNT amazed. so hopefully we will see sonic depth and biting sharp filters et al like in the real Oasys.

It's hard to judge quality of sound from some super compressed youtube clip but yeah, I htought prepare to be amazed? At demo music like this??? Not so much. I've had a Triton Extreme... come to think of it why haven't I bought another one... loved that thing, an M3 and still have an OASYS. All sounded great but the Big O has this Biiiiiig sound to it. It may be better convertors (please don't flame me on the convertors don't have anythign to do with sound debate) whatever it is (it could be little green mice running aorund under the hood), there's somethign in the O that makes it sound really big. Great sounding board. But IMO if it sounded as good as a Triton Extreme, but had all of the engines (unlocked) with an updated sequencer for 3-4k... that is one great synth.

One thing though...there is no KARMA mentioned in here???!!!
I see the LOGO on the picture but not in specs...and only 4 modules?

there was a lot left out in the specs... like polyphony, display, controllers, etc. if it's painted on the top panel, chances are it's inside...i'm sure we'll find out more when Korg does their demo at NAMM what KARMA 3.0 is all about

We'll see the price but at the moment imho a master + macbook with Ableton Suite (and legacy collection if you like it) are far more appealing to me than this 80ies looking workstation (it's not retro looking... it's simply ugly).

I understand it can be o good choice for someone wanting an all in one instruments... but in a home/pro studio it's far better a pc based "workstation" which gives you endless expansion (new plugins, updates and so on).

I'm not amazed either, Im afraid... (and I so, so wanted to be!)

From the specs that have been released, there's nothing excitingly new! It's just been 'bundled' from existing stuff.

I was hoping for something a little more imaginative than a budget-price OASYS...

And without wishing to rain on this parade - kind of shows how much Korg respects original O users (buyers) as they first discountinued, then no update since Nov 2009 and now release the 'game changer' which is a cheap OASYS... ? And before ozy chimes in, yes, I do know that that's how technology becomes mass produced - because of the expensive early adoption. HOWEVER - if Korg has produced an OS that is better than the O v1.3.3a to run on Kronos, surely they should release an upgrade for O users.

I guess there will be more details released today - hope Korg's websites get updated soon so that we can look at the full specs.

so are all those engines going to be an optional price upgrade like the oasys ones are in that they need an unlocking code To be purchased to take them out of demo mode...if not and its part of the package I think Korg are taking the piss out of Oasys Owners..

when I posted a lot pages before "the KRONOS is already discontinued" it was meant ironically but became truth:

Now KORG is melting the OASYS engines cow - a so far discontinued (?) system - OAYSY for the masses.

As a OASYS owner I really hope that it means they develop further updates and engines also for the OASYS, because they sell many units of KRONOS and hopefully it is compatible to OASYS so it becomes interesting for third party sound developers. It would be the easiest for KORG not to change program and combie structure so that also OASYS owners could participate from sounds etc and they wouldn´t forget their flagship customers.

On the other hand - it feels like KORG deprived the OASYS of its flagship myth .... hammmmm

It has an HD engine, so it should be similair to Oasys in respects to sound quality. (?)
perhaps the cut the sequencer too and just made an arpegiator with karma also.

Anyway, at least I'm "proud" that I have the Oasys and nothing yet beats that

AGREED

Granted, those engines are amazing. But with software like the komplete 7 package and things like u-he zebra... you're looking at unlimited polyphony with a setup that'll cost less than some "do-all". I'll happily stick with my SSD 64bit OS laptop and midi controller and laugh at people who actually pay $4,000 for Kronos. Sry to be rude about it but im just not amazed in the slightest
