LMAO

Pure genius TG - absolute classic and the most truthful statement ever made, summing everything up perfectly!!!!
Hehehe, indeed. The holy truth. Korg are you reading or are you going to find another way to screw your customers again?

Naviára wrote:Yes it's that easy you don't have to flip a switch - as soon as the Kronos OS is installed on the O harddrive (SSD or HDD), all the features will work the same way like on Kronos.

Simply spoken - you have no Oasys anymore - you have a Kronos! It's the same Kronos you can buy at stores soon... there is no difference!

All what the programmers have to do is some customization - making the font a little bit bigger for the lower resolution screen of the O - and activating the missing audio-inputs/outputs the O has. Korg has to build a installer for the O users, or could sell a SSD with customized Kronos OS installed.

Only the USB to PC connection will not work (because of the missing port on the O), the VSTi will (with a simple Midi connection) - still the USB audio stream is missing, but you can also use the SP/DIF output for that...

A.
"In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not."

I think you are seriously underestimating what a monumental task this backwards compatibility could potentially be.

But since I'm not an engineer at Korg, I honestly can't know for sure...so I don't know how you are so confident. I certainly don't think you can be angry with Korg w/o confirming this fundamental bit of information.

Not that it really pertains to this, but I do program for a living. I also code and use my own plugs on the side in my own projects (they even work sometimes). I had worked in MI for several years, eventually as a rep for one of the largest electronic keyboard brands (you would guess which one in three tries). As such, I personally know some knowledgeable people inside most of the largest electronic instrument companies. I'll pose this question sometime -- probably while taking a jab at disgruntled OASYS owners to lighten the mood and get a disarmed, real answer that I can't quote them on.

I'm new on here because I'm super-excited about the Kronos. Of course, I get into arguments w/ OASYS guys within, like, 5 seconds, LOL! But you guys are all great fun and this is a cool forum. Here's hoping we'll share a beer next time I'm in Germany!

Cheers,

Tim

But O users know, having seen screenshots for Kronos, that it is OASYS inside - like Intel. Remember the adverts? 'It's intel inside'. Same with the K - 'it's OASYS inside'!
Hi cello. Well you know my feelings on Korg's treatment of high-end customers since you joined this forum.

I suggest they got one letter wrong in the Kronos launch.....what they meant to say was......

.............The Name Has Been Changed...........
Wow, I'm sorry Korg but that's funny and it's the truth . . :3drofl:

Well, it would be very easy for Korg to clarify wether it's lots of work (and why and therefor is not implemented) OR if it's easy but still not implemented into the Oasys (because of .... ) OR if it's even easy and will be implemented (now that would be the posting we all would like to read here!).

All Korg needs to do is to communicate with its customers. As Korg's communication philosophy is ... erm ... "different", we will never know wether it is easy or not and what is going to happen ... until it happens.

I know what I will write could sound harsh for Oasys owner... (and even myself as an ex Oasys owner)...

I prefer Korg to be focus in the development of the Kronos to please hundreds of thousand users... than wasting time for 3000 or so Oasys owner. (I know, it's hard).

The Oasys will still be a great keyboard... and that's the price to pay when you own an avant-gardist piece of technology... What Yamaha VL-1 owner should think?

Of course, if it's possible to easily and quickly adapt the Oasys (with a HDD swap for the SSD and OS update) to enjoy the VMT, the Streaming, the new EXs and new EXi... yeah, please release it as a upgrade kit.

But if it won't be easily possible, will 'cost' R&D Team lot of time and money... I would just prefer them to be focus on the future of the new platform.

(Don't hurt me now...)

What would be cool for Korg to do is to offer some sort of upgrade path, such as send back your Oasys, pay the sum of $xxxx and we will return it with a new drive containing the piano samples, and a new OS integrating the EP.

That would go a long way towards restoring faith from dejected Oasys owners.

When Muse Research launched their Receptor 2, as an early Receptor 1 user, I was given the opportunity to upgrade my R1 to the R2 OS, at a cost, or simply buy the R2 at a much reduced price (about 40% discount). Say what you want about the Receptor, but that, in my book, was customer service.

I hope that there is some resolution to this in the future. I see both sides of this issue. I see Korg, for needing to turn profits in a business model that has been and continues to die off, and I most definitely can imagine being totally pissed at having spent 8k+ on an instrument, and then see its development killed off and then see research used for a mass market keyboard.

Here is hoping they will offer some kind of unlock for the remaining OASYS engines, or perhaps some kind of an additional discount to purchase a Kronos available only to OASYS owners. From my perspective as a professional opera singer, but a hobbyist/hack keyboardist composer, I have no problem seeing you guys get a Kronos at or slightly above cost compared to me paying close to MAP. I do not have the chops musically keyboard wise to justify the outlay of cash on an OASYS, and Kronos makes this possible for me.

Really, if there had not been the people who paid out the large outlay of cash to Korg for the OASYS keyboard Kronos may have never happened.
