I have the E2 but use it a lot with a iPad and a blofeld and I always wondered that as well! You would think it does as I set the level to 0 and use an external audio for the oscillator but I have no actual proof
However from personal use I don't come across as much voice stealing as others report here

One annoying thing is the midi cc from some of the knobs on the electribe will often mess with the settings of the iPad apps esp the level knob has affected everything from nave to mimix so maybe have a sort of midi filter device on the output of the electribe? I will be experimenting with this when I get my iconnect audio 4 set up or have a carefully set up template pre made
I do channel 1 and 2 on the E2 on level 0 audio input and have The blofeld apps on channel 1 and 2 only
Then the audio input on channel 3-5 are for the iPad apps that are actually playing into the E2
Then 6-8 are synth or fx from the E2 and the bottom row is all drums
Then the E2/ iPad combo and the blofeld go into a small mixer!

Also E2/ iPad and jdxi might be an even sweeter combo! The sequencer on the jdxi and extra drums could compliment the E2 well if it's not too basic
Kinda speculating at this point tho

That should be nice! I'm currently experimenting with a Microkorg XL+ and JU-06 with the ES2. The XL+ is multitimbral so I can sequence 2 patches off it. Pretty sure the JD-Xi is multitimbral also. I want to fill up the ES2 with only drums and single-cycle waves.

Yeah I kinda regret not waiting for the sampler for that reason the drums on the E2 are kinda meh and I don't really need the synth as much now
How do you like the Roland boutique piece?

Just got it a couple days ago and just been messing with it. Using it for some nice sounding pads. Great that it doesn't cut off when changing patterns. Loving it so far and matches the color scheme of the ES2, haha.

the JD Xi sequencer has one huge showstopper for me: after recording a synth line there is no way to get any information on which notes were played - at least according to the Roland forums

One thing I do to avoid voice stealing is this.
After live recording my drum parts, I go into sequencer mode and make sure each drum hit is not taking up more than one spot on the grid.
