N5 - X5D Question

Post by biodad »

Greetings.
A real good "friend" owed me some $ for a long time and since I'll never get paid, I swapped his debt for his Korg N5 synth. Of course, no manual. ( how do people lose manuals? ) I can download one, I know. After some quick online viewing I noticed something said about loading or converting X5 sounds? Is this an X5D with some new samples or sounds and can it be exactly an X5D? Just wondering what the difference is between the two and if my years of programming my X5 can be transferred into the N5.

I like Korg for bread and butter sounds and for reliable build quality but I am wondering what I have here. It beats being owed $ that I'll never see.

My primary use is in the home as a Hammond / home theatre organ with 24 midi bass pedals. I'll use it for left hand- lower register pads to layer my K2000R over with a Voce V5 through a Neo Vent. I use my X5D synth and other modules and a 2nd Voce V5 for the upper keyboard. A better Hammond / home theatre organ vs buying an old Conn or Wurly, so on.

Any praises or critisisms of the N5 are welcomed.

Yes the N5 is a X5D with more samples (an additional 4MB) and more programs and combis but the synth engine and the FX unit are the same.
