Can the white Volca sample audio signals directly? No sir, only indirect over a smartphone or tablet app. By the way, this is the reason I don't own a Volca Sample.Hollow Man wrote:I did a search and didn't come up with an answer, thanks
your loss dude this is a very minor limitation given how good the available (free) apps arethis is the reason I don't own a Volca Sample.
It depends on what you want to do and how quickly. I expect from a sampler to be able to make samples of my live instruments directly. It has to be fast and intuitive. I don't want to use another device including the sampler just to be able to make a sample. Maybe I'm too much old school.OIP wrote: your loss dude this is a very minor limitation given how good the available (free) apps are
For capturing sounds outside the studio I'd rather use a Zoom handy recorder. It gives me more control and (most probably) better quality as a mobile phone.TheGhostStation wrote:The iOS app for capturing sounds is awesome. It allows you to be more creative by using it in places outside the studio to sample sounds.
The Volca Sample (not Volca Sampler) is marketed as a (quote):'Digital Sample Sequencer' - it was never meant to be a sampler - there are other solutions out there for sampling.I expect from a sampler to be able to make samples of my live instruments directly.

Nobody here (except you) wrote 'Volca Sampler' but many people are mislead by the name and are expecting the white box to sample audio, including the OP.mesoboy wrote:The Volca Sample (not Volca Sampler) is marketed as a (quote):'Digital Sample Sequencer' - it was never meant to be a sampler - there are other solutions out there for sampling.
oh it's a different workflow for sure, compared to some classic samplers like an ASR where you can live sample, re-sample and manipulate without missing a beat. you could easily have a very basic setup to sample and load from instruments or other devices via phone or tablet into the volca straight away but it's a little bit of a mess around. that's only for live sampling though, for anything just chopping and preparing samples it's really no inconvenience and in fact much better to do so on a modern interface vs a little LED setup.Dragan wrote:It depends on what you want to do and how quickly. I agree and I second that. Incredible amount of fun totally unproportional to the amount of money spent.all that said, the quality + price + features + intuitiveness + sound + fun of the volca sample is just ridiculous. that's why i say it's a loss to write it off for lack of direct sampling ability.
Instead of Digital Sample Sequencer something like Sample Player & Sequencer would be more appropriate. But most people these days don't come that far to read the subtitles.neeve1 wrote:It's a Volca that uses samples as a sound source. How the f should you call it?
