Volume pedal

Post by eriknie »

I'm a new Kronos 2 61 user, did my first gig with the Kronos (together with Kurzweil PC3 as midicontroller)

I'm using the Roland EV5 as controller. Worked great for me with my previous board. But the control with the Kronos is not as great.

I read about a 10KOhm linear potmeter in the EV5 and 50KOhm Logarithmic in the FC7. I had a FC7 but sold it half a year ago because I only used it years back with my motif.

The control of volume is tricky: only a small range is actually controlling the volume and is not nice. Specially for expressing in the Hammond sounds it is tricky,
I plug it into the pedal input from the Kronos.

Questions:
- Can I replace the potmeter in the EV5 with another one (I opened the EV5 and saw that the rotation of the pot is only limited, So I would need a special potmeter that only rotates 90 degrees or so)
- Is the volume control using the FC7 even over the full range?

THanks for the support.

I really like my Kronos!

Sell the EV5 and buy a used FC7, there might even be someone with the opposite problem that wants to trade..

Or.... Is it possible to "program" the response curve of the pedal onboard the Kronos? E.g. Make the response curve logarithmic versus linear, etc?

No. You could buy a more advanced pedal though, or modify your pedal of choice with a different pot.

I would switch the pot if it looks easy.

The roland EV5 uses a different wiring altogether than Yamaha and Korg. There is an adapter you can buy from Ashby Solutions if you want to use it with the Korg, but I would recommend getting the FC7 - it's a much better pedal.

My FC7 pedals used to split apart all the time. Have they fixed that problem?

Thanks for the remarks. I bought a FC7, so when it arrives I'll let you know if it is a better solution for me.

Got my FC7. Great even distribution.
Much better than the EV5.
I will store my EV5 for any future upgrade that needs a Roland curve....

Hope this also helps others!

Gotta say - based on this thread, I pulled out my old FC-7 foot pedal, and it is AWESOME, especially for organ - much better than the Roland FC500 I had been using.

Thanks to everyone who participates in this forum. So many great tips - thanks for sharing!
