Combis/Songs not receiving on midi ch1 from Logic?

Post by midinotes »

Strange problem but recently my combis on the Kronos don't seem to receive on midi Ch 1 from Logic Pro X, yet work fine on other midi channels. If I create 16 tracks (ext midi) in logic and create a new combi (I'm using USB midi), they all work fine except Ch.1. I've checked the track parameters and the track is definitely set to Ch.1, Logic Pro is definitely outputing to KRONOS SOUND on Channel 1. I've tried rebooting the Kronos, Logic, sending a midi reset, but there's no midi activity on track midi ch.1. on the Kronos, either in a combi or a song. Any ideas? Logic is sending out midi ok (checked on other modules).

further diagnosis of kronos midi channel problems

Post by midinotes »

Doing further tests it appears that the factory preset combis respond on midi channel 1, yet all recent user combis I've created no longer respond on midi channel 1 from an external source. I've tried creating a new INIT combi and the same happens. If I change the midi receiving channel of track 1 in the combi to another midi channel, it plays ok but it won't respond on midi channel 1. Yet factory combis and programs work ok from midi channel 1!
I've checked every setting as far as I can see in the combis for midi channel, filtering, volume, global settings but I am completely puzzled.
The kronos is transmitting on channel 1 in to my sequencer (Logic Pro) which I have a new ext midi track set to KRONOS SOUND midi channel 1. Both songs and combis on the kronos behave the same, its as though anything coming in on midi channel 1 is being blocked. Anyone have any clues? This is driving me crazy!

Is there perhaps a setting in Logic that needs to be changed?

You could put a MIDI analyzer between Logic and the Kronos to make sure it's outputting on channel 1.

it could be that in those combis the KARMA implementation is based on midi channel 1, since you disabled the Local Control setting in global, all KARMA functionality is also disabled.

Do your tests again with the Local Control settings to ON.
If it does work then, then you know where to look to modify your combis.

I couldn't find anything in Logic that would do this, and the strange thing is if I change the midi channel on the logic track to any other it works. Anyway the strange thing is that I booted up the Kronos editor software on the Mac and used it to play the combi from my Roland A49 midi in. It worked! So I then tried it on the Kronos and it seems to now be working. I'm wondering if there's a bug on the kronos that could somehow disable the channel if certain midi messages were received. Whatever it was it's now fine, but if it happens again I'll try and do a bit more diagnosis. Doesn't seem anyone else has experienced this issue though as I couldn't find anything reported on the web, so must be just me!

Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond as well with suggestions.

Kind regards

Hello simon
I am interested in the way your logic project is setup
You said you create one track by channel

I suppose your combi uses karma
When the karma is playing , don't you have midi notes loop in logic ?
Normally the midi pass-thru should be mute on each track to avoid that .
I just wondering if you had this issue and how you solve it in logic?

Many thanks in advance
Best regards
Yannick
