Hi all
First post so please be kind
At the moment I have the Maschine and circuit but am thinking of selling my Maschine for an electribe. Reason being i dont really get on with the maschine software and want to move away from computer production. Obviously I will still want add my tracks to soundcloud so I'm thinking I will need a daw.
So my questions are -
1. What do u think of the electribe sampler?
2. Do u think I'm making a wise choice
3. Would the circuit and electribe sampler compliment each other and be a good set up...or are they both just too similar?
I'm a newbie to music production wanting to make hip hop beats.
Thanks

1. the electribe is ok it sound good but it can be a bit fiddly; both maschine and electribe are easy to use, but u can do more on maschine feature-wise obviously
2. u must decide if the choice is wise base on ur preferences; watch more videos of the electribe in use.
3.dunno if the circuit complments the tribe

Hi, I still got machine and its gathering dust I sold my mk1 some time ago also. If you're into hiphop, don't bother buying an electribe...

not that i'm saying its a bad tool. it's far from ok for any genre unless you want to sound like tv jingles. With the older ones u could do much more. Mostly HipHop goes well with sampling On the electribe Sampler there is Just not enough memory

i've posted a topic about it that kind of explains how much sampling time there is. I'm sure there is no workaround or they will never update that.
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... p?t=105683
What do I think, I'm thinking about selling my electribes but what if they would come up with some cool features, I'm not sure of that the latest update took like 2 years and it has only added a couple of basic functions that should have been there from the beginning. I'm not sure they can improve more unless they make like thousands of workarounds in their programming. As how the Electribes both are right now it's like 2016 and Korg took a whole leap back.
There's a groove function but everything is quantized so having a nice human shuffle you make yourself FORGET that.
The Wise Choise would be sell machine and get an MPC

I also own a 500 but idd go for a thousand or a 2500 if i could.
The thing with the new electribes is it looks cool it's small and yeah it would be a beast if all the user functions that every1 came up with over a year would have been added to it, Ure wasting money buying a 24mb sampler for 500 euro's or dollars in 2016. I'm sure they will not upgrade it more than what it is now.
I mean 2 years for an update

next update in maybe another 2 years there are other companies coming out with newer and better gear in that short time span...
The thing is I'm a Techno producer, The polyphony is limited, the amount of bars is limited, there's not even a reverb for the parts insert etc... Everytime I want to use the sampler version I get annoyed that the sample memory sucks and the stock sounds sorry but they are just terrible if you check the demo's there's not more u can do than what every youtube vid shows u you can do.
thinking about getting some elektrons instead
I would not recommend it to any1

you will regret it.

I think Yann_ is being way to hard on the Electribe. Only good for making TV jingles? You must be joking. Youtube some of the people doing ambient music on the new Electribe and you'll see some great stuff. But he's largely right actually. I couldn't recommend it to anyone, but it's become my main piece of gear. I went through a couple months where I only had a small table to work on and so was forced to work with just the E2S. It was a very painful experience, but I got so used to its workflow that now I'm very comfortable using it and like what I make with it quite a bit. It's indispensable.
I think you have to approach the new Electribes as synthesizers and have the synthesist cap on when working with them. Lots of minor tweaks and modulations etc are required to make them sound alive. Dead and dull is its natural state. I often felt like it was working against me. But at the same time I also felt full ownership over my results because it required so much coaxing and tweaking -- and you can get results you like. So all this being said, I'll be buying the Blue Electribe to complete the set as soon as its available but paradoxically I recommend that you pass on it.

thing is the issues with the electribe are easily fixed
all the need to do to make it great for hip hop is allow freely assignable mute groups for better chopping.
and the ability to turn of quantize
and perhaps amending the sample management

Thanks all for the feedback. Very helpful.
So Yann i was also thinking about the mpc 500 but am confused. Does this come with sounds or do you literally have to sample everything? For example I've flipped a sample got a drum beat down but want to add s synth... Would I have to go out and sample a synth from a daw?

You are crazy! Keep maschine! Dont think "oh I need this or want that to make better music" just learn what you have inside out!

he might be right u seem like u have the grass is greener syndrome, mpc is more fiddly than the maschine and the korg most likely.
if u want to be of the pc ur better off with the electribe or the boss sp range, but again why do u want to be off the computer

Well ive done the gear chasing thing too much, you know! And in hindsight I had the "perfect" set up. Still do.
But if you want to get away from a computer, my thought at this point if I were starting out would be maschine studio, a surface pro and a blofeld keyboard! And eventually a desktop to mix in.

One caveat - there is; one which I didn't realise myself until I looked into reviews. And here it is: Anyone considering buying a Maschine Studio needs to pay close attention to the many complaints (read - an allegedly long drawn out, and largely insufferable process) as regards literally begging their customer support to 'release' your serial number, which absolutely needs to be done when resale day comes - e.g., when you wish to sell/upgrade your unit. Check for example this customer's feedback
"so you may ask, what's the problem? I'll tell you what. They never seem to be able to release your software serial numbers with just the online request, which by the way takes days to process if they do so at all... Sorry no, you have to call registration support. Plan on spending an hour on hold. If you get to the front of the queue, don't be surprised if their system hangs up on you. Yesterday I spent the better part of three, yes, that is three with a (3) hours on hold. I was next caller for over twenty minutes on one call and next to be helped for 17 minutes before I was cut off...twice..."
He concludes: "NI make some really cool gear but their product support is horrendous. If you never had to contact them it wouldn't be a problem but trust me, you will. Forget trying to contact the main German office for support or a complaint, they loop you back to the U.S. office even though they speak English. I have to wonder if their customer support is as dismal in Germany? Considering I have thousands of dollars of this companies product line, you would think they would be helpful. Nope, they are just the opposite and act like they are doing you a favor. They just don't care. I won't be wasting my money on their products again."
Of course there will always be a small but very wealthy minority who couldn't care less about selling their products on when upgrade time comes, but for the rest of us, surely that makes for some sober reading?
I too was interested in the Maschine line, some day after Korg, but on reading not just the above complaint, but many similar ones, I've decided that the upgrade route I'll be taking is definitely towards the Elektron A4 or Keys and Elektron Octatrack, from here. I trust that others can see the sense in that. Nonetheless, I just hope this helps to refocus the OP's mind on what he's possibly getting into, if he takes the Maschine route. Elektron, by contrast, seem to be absolutely welcoming when it comes to their products being sold on the second market, by legitimate pre-owners. Realising that, makes the Elektron way seem, in all relevant respects, the very best way to branch out from Korg's Electribes when the day comes.
Any further thoughts, or all agreed?
