Sharing here some of the Banks I am in the Process of Converting

Please note: This is a time consuming and boring process and Might have missed or loaded same bank twice in some cases.

Most of these banks are from DX-7 All the Web archive. ( http://bobbyblues.recup.ch/yamaha_dx7/dx7_patches.html )

Downlod Location (Dropbox Folder): https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qfww4od8pi3y ... frMfa?dl=0

Each Bank is a Separate Zip file.

Instructions:
DX7 Sysex Banks conversions to PCG/Exi
These Files Include Contens from DX-7 Web Archives
A lot of tones will be 'not so quite good for today sandards", however there are some true
some unique gems in here that just would not be possible otherwise

WARNING: The PCG will overwrite the All user program banks U-A thru U-GG.

Make Sure you backup your PCG data first.

Basic Workflow (The Way I intend to use these)

1: Do Not load the PCG File in the KRONOS
2: Instead. Open it,and go to a program bank.
3: Select Program and you should be able to audition it without loading.
4: Load only the Programs that you want.
5: Tip I activate reverb on my mixer, so kronos output comes with a reverb, helps with auditioning.
6: I'd Use these as starting blocks for editing.
I take no responsibility whatsoever, I have just merely converted the syx files to PCG format so it's easy to find the sound
without loading the entire banks.

Enjoy!

I had not used any kind of conversion to install DX7 sound banks on my Kronos a few years ago, I had just copied the .syx files on the drive and only with a menu command they were all on their program locations. Only DX7 mark 1 files loads this way, DX7ii files needs a conversion.

Rigel,
I am converting so that I can preview a patch before loading the entire bank.
This way your entire hard-drive becomes a huge program database. I don't have to load an entire sysex bank each time to look what's inside. Saves a lot of time as I only load what I need or can create a custom program bank quickly.

Also with PCGtools I can create a text file listing for all the programs inside a pcg thus acting as kinda search and locate.

I am too loading the sysex banks into kronos and then saving each set as a pcg.

basically I created an empty PCG with U-A through U-GG, which I load to clean up user banks and then I load sysex into them and then save the PCG file.

Hi Amit,

Just wanted to say thank you for your generosity in sharing these files. I used to have a couple of DXs back in the day, but found them very unrewarding and difficult to program. Being able to put these programs into the Kronos and work on them is a million times better - thanks for the opportunity.

Pete.

Hi street,
It's all manual process.
I load the empty bank to kronos.
Then I start loading dx7 sysex banks into kronos user banks. Once filled I save the pcg from kronos. And repeat the process again.
There is nothing special I am doing.

Thanks for mentioning PCG Tools, although it cannot do the conversion, it can help with rearranging programs, rename them easily and making textual lists. Also a filter can be used to search for (a part of) names.

Btw, I contacted Korg long time ago for providing the algorithm for the DX7->MOD7 conversion but due to legal issues it could not be provided, otherwise I could have done it automatically within PCG Tools.
