My prize is a free Kronos 2 from pro audio . I better call them now ;)

I got mine used from a pawn shop for $1300 and some drama :)

I saw the ad on craigslist at around 9 pm at night, saw that the ad was fresh, and promptly offered a trade of my MOXF 6, Maschine MK2 w/software and Komplete 9, and Nektar P4 on the grounds that they could easily get more than the $1350 ask for the Kronos for that.

They responded at about 8:30 the next day and told me that they don’t really do musical instruments but that they were simply consolidating some things for a frequent customer. He told me a man and his son had been there the night before and that they spent several hours and said they would come back. The shop opened at 10 am.

The pawn shop was in San Diego and I work about 2 hours away, so I begged him to hold it because I was a surefire buy as long as everything worked, but I worked two hours away and had some hoops to jump through.

-I had to ask to leave work for four hours and use vacation time to cover.

-I had to explain this to my wife, as I only had the MOXF for a few months, and explain WHY I’m doing this. She was pissed that we had to pull money from savings to front the money and wait for everything to sell. So we had a small fight over it.

- I had to drive two hours each way.

So I explained all of this and begged him and he held it until 11.
So I get there and the guy from the previous night was there, pacing in front of the store. The pawn shop manager told me that was the guy, but the way he was pacing made it obvious.

Tso this dude gets into a van and glares at me while I’m testing things out. The store owner explains that the guys son played for Arabic weddings and complained that since the Kronos didn’t have the Arabic voice set…. He should get a $100 off.

I’m like WHAT? He clearly doesn’t know what this thing is if he’s haggling down from $1350.The shop owner agreed and said their phone had already blown up with like 10 standby offers. They even showed the guy ebay and CL listings to show him how deep a discount he was already getting. Adding insult to injury the shop owner knocked off another $50 since I paid cash.

Anyhow I bought it and the guy in the van followed me to my car….. and asked, no joke, “did you buy that?”

I looked around like…. Am I outside the store?
He says “I was here looking at it last night.”

I sat there waiting for him to finish his thought, assuming this to be a very pregnant pause.

False alarm. That was his entire statement. I’m like and? Did you buy it? Doesn’t seem like you paid for it so I don’t understand your point. I bought it, you didn’t. He asked what I paid and he offered me….. an additional $50. I laughed hysterically. I asked if he had any clue what he was trying to buy and he screamed “THAT DOESN’T HAVE THE VOICES WE NEED!! THEY COST A THOUSAN DOLLARS FOR THE VOICES! HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT?”

I told him to give me two grand and we’ll call it even, since I had seen another one at the time for $1800. He got pissed and started screaming about the voice set again. I screamed back that IT DOESN’T COME WITH THOSE VOICES, THOSE ARE EXPANSIONS THAT YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO BUY!!!

I said he was an idiot and had no idea what he was trying to buy and it was his own damn fault for trying to haggle over something that was already deeply discounted. He peeled out.

Well, if it all works as it should, this would indeed be a bargain.

You should have told him that yeah... you bought it, but luckily you have another keyboard with arabic voicings on the side that you use regularly.
Then get the hell out of there! :-)

that was exciting

trying to sell used software is tricky business. typically this stuff is not ' transferable ' like hardware.

Not. The offer that sounds too good to be true is, indeed, not true. It's for a used K. It says "Used". New and Used come up differently in the shopping cart. Maybe when the K3 comes out.

Nah I actually sold everything within two weeks. The NI transfer was completely seamless and took about 24 hours.

isn't your NI Mashine piece a hardware/control surface with integrated software ?

I was referring to standalone software packages.

Got a brand new Kronos2 61 for $2099, complete with good Karma. However, it was damaged while on route. Bad karma. This was a good deal after all.
