Seamless Performance play? (non stop without pauses)

Hi,

I am contemplating purchasing a Korg Kronos but I first want to make sure it can do what I need. (I currently own a Yamah Motif XS).

What I am trying to do is make some complete patterns that are song specific and just play over the top in a live situation in a seamless song medley.

The restriction on the Motif is that before jumping into the next song I cannot seamless skip into a new pattern with different instruments in its pallet without having to stop the sequencer - selecting the next pattern and then pressing play.

The Motif XS has live performance mode which CAN do this BUT only with a total of 4 tracks - its not enough to make full backing tracks with - its mostly there to be a "scratch pad" to generate ideas and spark creativity... If i go into song mode or pattern mode I can do 16 tracks BUT as i stated above - you cannot seamlessly go from one song to the next (new sounds / new loops / new drum kits etc)... I am contemplating a Korg kronos to use the Karma engine for this particular reason... 8 or 16? tracks - seamless switching between instruments and loops / arpeggiaters / static tracks etc.

Can this be done with the Kronos?

Thanks

Kronos has seamless transitions: if a sounds starts, and you change timbre of combi, the sound dies out naturally (if you holda key it continues as long as you hod the key).

BUT: karma does not do that - if you switch program or combi, the GEs in the original ones stop generating events as soon as you switch.

Hi,

What I meant was - If i have a combi going in karma that I am playing along with or whatever and I want to switch to a brand new set from the custom set list screen, will the beat continue in a smooth time transition or will the current patterns simply stop and then a gap would happen until i press play again for the new patterns to start?

Hope you know what I mean. lol sorry

The karma patterns will stop. Whatever you are playing on the keyboard (the keys you are pressing) will continue using the original combi timbres until you lift the keys. Whatever keys you hit after the switch will sound per new combi, and will trigger Karma in the new combi.

Hi Rick,
I believe you could make a combi with a drum track (not a Karma) and then lets say 5 or more different programs and then mute all of them except one and play along and then mute and unmute the sounds you want while the drum track or sequence will continues. Or you could use the faders and far in and out.
not sure if that is what your after or not.
