New OS on external drive

Due to compatibility issues of other software, can't upgrade my Mac HD beyond Yosemite. Have installed Sierra on external drive. Using Logic Pro X and Ableton Live. Do I have to reinstall Legacy Collection (and Gadget) on new OS so they are visible to DAWs? Can I use migration tool? Will I have auth/license issues? Any help appreciated.
