I realise that I can use the touchscreen to change from one sound to another when in a performance. But is there a way to assign switches or pedals to switch from Uppers 1 - 3 in a performance, without have to mute the sound via the touchscreen please? Thank you very much.

Assuming your is request is for live gig, activate assignable switches or touch screen take's the same time.- IMHO use asignable pedal to perform UP-DOWN cycle of your sts (see pedal asignable switch function on your manual).-
You can do the same with performances, but you must take in count that a cycle its' not enabled, so performances of one type must neccesary have the same effect otherwise you'll have a dissapointed sound when you change from one to the next.- The benefit os using performances to do what you want is that you can have for each performance 4 STS which allow you to get a very big set.-
Another solution is programing a custom list with all your preferences using the songbook function.- You must try till u find what matches your needs.-
