Why is attack decay release not working?

A very newbie question, but I can't find anything about this in the Electribe 2 manual or on Google:
For some sounds, you can adjust the attack and decay/release, but for many sounds there is no effect at all when I turn the attack and decay/release knobs.
It works with pattern Magician 1 Part 4 OSC SAW, but when I select an empty pattern and assign OSC SAW to a part, the attack decay release buttons don't work anymore.
Is my electribe 2 broken? What other setting do you need to enable attack/decay/release?
