I'm currently installing the newest version of this just to check it out. It's apparently the Platinum version of Sonar, but they have apparently removed some of the third party plugins that they found "unnecessary." Apparently this version is 100% free with no commitment whatsoever. I'm excited to try it. Enjoy:

It looks to me like they are giving us the engine for free but will be charging for soft synths, effects processors, and other plugins in the future. I mostly work with MIDI so I'm not sad about this arrangement! Also, they may begin charging a subscription fee if you want updates.

I'm not too bothered it only comes with the core engine since I had X3 Producer anyway, so all the plugins and extra's for that work with this anyway. Plus most of my plugins have a VST variant so I can load them in to this. It does come though with channel strip affects and a few other bits anyway as part of the deal. I was looking for a 2nd DAW (Windows based), as I mainly work with Logic on a Mac but wanted to move back over to Windows for another DAW so this is perfect, touch control with the Surface Book 2 is excellent too, the Surface dial works seamlessly along with touch for the majority of the interface.
Offcourse they need to make money, nothing is free in our current world..Gargamel314 wrote:It looks to me like they are giving us the engine for free but will be charging for soft synths, effects processors, and other plugins in the future.
