Using both midi inputs on Kross

Can I use both the Din Plug and the USB plug at the same time... I want to use my Alesis Wireless Vortex 2 controller to play patches on my Kross (not a Kross 2) via the USB port, and to use a master keyboard to send patch changes to my Kross thru the din plug. Can it be done?
Thanks in advance,
Kevan

Hi Kevan,

You can use both the USB and MIDI DIN to control the Kross.

However I seriously doubt you can use your Alesis to control the Kross over the USB interface. Both the Alesis and the Kross implement the USB device side. So you can not connect them straight away. The USB device side (of both the Kross and Alesis) need to be connected to a USB host like a PC.

There exist 'bridge software' on the PC to cross (:)) connect the Alesis via the PC back to the Kross when they are both wired up via USB to the PC. To be tried out, but I would not do that. It involves a pc, drivers, software, latency...

Then I'd rather look for a MIDI merger device. You hook up both your master keyboard and Alesis via MIDI DIN to the merger. It merges both MIDI streams and forwards it over MIDI DIN to the Kross.

Have fun

Hmmm... Well that's too bad, I'll just run the Alesis through my iPad then so it
can stay wireless onstage.

Thanks so much!

I use a kenton usb midi host specifically for this. It's a little piece of hardware with din midi out that you can merge in a merger with the other master keyboard, and then midi in to the korg. You will be wireless and without the need of a computer.
