Electribe 2: export patterns as midi+audio and custom osc?

Post by korganator »

Hi,
I am a sort of korg newbie; got 3 products so far (monologue, NTS-1 and Electribe 2), and I am looking for a way to integrate those in my DAW workflow.

While I wait for the NTS-1 (although I have downloaded the SDK and started to read the API docs), I was successful in integrating the monologue, since Korg has midi drivers, so I just need to create an extra track for the audio to record it; once I record the midi part.

Although with the electribe 2 I am a bit lost. I can still record the audio "as is" from the headphone out, as wav; but I was hoping there was a way to dump the patterns as midi tracks in a DAW, so then I can record the audio, as I do with the monologue.

Is this possible? I understand that Korg abandoned the electribe at this point, so there won't be any sort of update to existing drivers, but I am wondering if there are ways to achieve what I described.

Also is there a way to put custom oscillators on the electribe 2? What about other sounds? I know that the electribe sampler does accept new audio files, but what about the regular electribe?

You can record the note data MIDI from e2 as the pattern plays, using the USB or TRS outputs.

The USB MIDI driver is the same as for the Monologue:

Live control changes are transmitted, motion sequences are not.

As far as I know, there is not yet a way to convert pattern files directly to MIDI.

The e2 synth does not accept custom audio data by default. It may be possible to hack some in via the firmware update function. The audio data appears to be encrypted, possibly FLAC but maybe proprietary. Hacking your firmware will void your warranty and could permanently brick your device.

Thanks; I tried to plug the E2 to my computer, which already has the monologue drivers, but I see no midi device for the E2. The sound that you hear when a usb connection is started, does play, but when I go in my daw, it does not show up as midi instrument.

So there is no way to modify what is onboard on the device; that is disappointing to be honest; considering that the device has an SD card slot and a USB slot; so one would expect something like the monologue librarian software, to modify and add presets for the various sounds and oscillators.

I understand that there is the sampler version that can load samples, but it does not load new oscillators. And the firmware mod is also not an option because encrypted. Would be nice if Korg would at least release open source firmware for their devices, since they abandon support for them after few years from release. At least the community can continue to evolve those devices, if they don't plan to.

Have you tried connecting the e2 without the monologue connected?

What DAW are you using?

So there is no way to modify what is onboard on the device
You can edit the patches and patterns, I just meant that you can't replace the samples on the synth.

the firmware mod is also not an option because encrypted
The firmware isn't encrypted, just the audio data, and I think it's only compressed.
