Korg Volca to Ableton LIVE through Scarlett 212

Post by raddy1959 »

I'm trying to get my new KORG Volca to talk Ableton Live 9.
I'm getting output to the Scarlett from the volca headphone jack.
I have set up the Scarlett/AISO on Ableton but I'm still getting nothing in Ableton.
Being a complete newbie I think I must be missing something really basic. I think I might have to do something with a midi channel on the Volca - as I say I am an absolute novice - but to get something onot Ableton would be fantastic

Hey there, I’m new to synths myself. Just picked up a Sample and have been having fun with it but it’s not without some learning curve frustrations. Trying to load samples from Caustic Editor today was error after error. Audio Pocket is easy as pie but ugh. Two wasted hours.
Anyway, to try to help with your issue...I’ve got a Scarlett Solo and mainly use Audacity. Sometimes I’ll use Abelton. Haven’t tried yet with the Volca.
Are you trying to have Abelton control the Volca through MIDI? The Scarlett 212 has MIDI doesn’t it? The Solo doesn’t. I ask you because I’m not sure whether you’re trying to get the MIDI to work with Abelton, or you’re just trying to get the Volca’s audio into Abelton. If that’s the case it’s pretty straightforward, just like getting guitar or bass or anything into a DAW. If it’s the audio you want just use the Volca’s headphone jack and a 1/8” to 1/4” adapter and plug into the line level input. Make sure you have the Scarlett set as the input/output device in Abelton’s preferences and there’s no need for the MIDI since it’s only a MIDI ‘in’ jack on the Volca. From what I’ve read you can get Abelton to control some of the Volca’s functions with a MIDI out of Abelton to the Volca MIDI in, but really need a MIDI controller to do more. Just today I hooked my Volca up to my Scarlett and into Audacity. It worked perfectly and was simple to do, but again I’m not sure if that’s exactly what you’re looking to do. Just thought I’d offer some help if it’s just the audio you’re trying to get into Abelton. Sorry I can’t be much help with the MIDI. I’m new to it as well.
Hope I helped a little.
