Kronos Patches on AX Edge keytar, wirelessly!!!

Post by Eeshan »

hello everyone,

Ive been wanting to figure a way to make my kronos combis and programs run on the AX Edge keytar, through the wireless midi.

Why am i doing this?
Well, I'm a touring musician, and no doubt that the latest AX edge keytar by Roland has some great inbuilt sound, but for certain songs with certain artist i'd like to use the same sounds that i have made on the Kronos.

The Big question:
How do i go about it?
If anyone of you does the same thing, could you shoot a video or detail out as to how have you done it and which Wireless Midi device are you using?
Most importantly, how cumbersome is this whole thing?

Hoping to get some response from you guys.

Thanks

The WIDI-X8 works well, and handles duplex i.e. MIDI both ways. It's pretty flexible, allowing use of standard MIDI cables, or MIDI over USB.

Video, probably overlong!

I use a WIDI along with my Roland AX-Synth and Oasys, pretty much the same setup.
Unfortunately the WIDI X-8 isn't available anymore.
In view of future expansions I have looked into other wireless MIDI units and I found this:

It isn't duplex but I need to say I use my AX as a controller and virtually never send any MIDI to it; especially on stage I never do it.

I also added a Midi Solutions event processor to the chain which allows me to do both Karma scene changes and program changes to go from one combi to the next, all using only the buttons on the AX. Works pretty well.

Just to understand it further,
The patches on the kronos that i want the AX Edge to play wirelessly, do i have to make them again on the kronos keeping the keytar in mind?

Also do i have to make any internal settings on both kronos and the AX Edge to make the wireless device work.

Kronos engine is obviously a much powerful engine, and i thought it would be a good idea to come ahead on stage on songs which are more heavy on pads and strings and require minimalistic playing.
Which is why i was wondering if i could connect the two instruments wirelessly and play the sounds of the Kronos through the AX edge.

hoping to hear from you all

Thank you so much

In some cases you might need to reassign ams sources according to the possibilities of the keytar. Depending on how much you use the knobs, ribbon, switches etc, you may need to overthink how to map these on the combis.
