Having trouble connecting SG Pro X as midi via midi-to-usb

I'm using the iconnectivity mio midi-to-usb cord with my SG Pro X.
I tried a couple of different things, but it's still not registering on my iMac.
Here's what I've tried:
1) downloading the SG Pro X Korg driver which opened a TXT file - couldn't do anything with it
2) setting up a midi device in the iMac Audio Midi Setup tool (testing setup didn't do anything) and connected it to the mio device
3) tried manually mapping the control in Ableton - it's seeing the mio as an input option, but it's not registering when I click any keys on the SG Pro X
4) downloading the Korg Midi to USB driver - didn't do anything
Note - iMac is updated to 10.11.6 - doesn't have the option for further updates
Am I just missing something here, or is the SG Pro X so old that it's simply not going to work?
