No sound from Prologue 8 via USB MIDI into Mac

Post by BKtimes2 »

I just connected my new Prologue 8 to my Mac to work in Logic and I'm unable to get any sound into the Mac.

I've updated the firmware, etc. Everything works/sounds fine directly out of the Prologue. I'm connecting to my Mac via direct USB. The Prologue shows up in the Apple MIDI Audio utility, and I can see that it's transmitting data when I run tests. When I press the Prologue keys, my Mac acknowledges it's receiving data. When I test the Mac pulling a sound, I can see the oscilloscope running, but I can't hear anything (either via the external DAC I'm using or directly from the Mac's speaker).

In Logic, when I select Prologue Sound as the MIDI destination (channel ALL) I don't hear anything (and I've checked every channel individually). However, if I select my Roland JX-03 (also connected directly via USB) as the MIDI destination, I can use the Prologue as a controller just fine.

The Prologue is set to MIDI Route USB and Global Channel 1 and Sub CC Channel 2.

It feels like I may be missing something obvious, but I have no clue what else to do.

Are you trying to record audio from the Prologue using its USB connection? Unlike the JX-03, which transmits both MIDI and audio, the Prologue only transmits MIDI information over USB. If you want to record audio, you need to connect it to an audio interface.

Ha! Wow. Yeah, that's the answer. As I said...I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.

Thanks for pointing that out and saving me a ton of frustration!
