Hello,

I'm hesitating buying pa4x or pa1000.
It seems that the pa4x does not have any internal speakers, and you must have an external amplification. Correct ?
But it comes with a desk you can plug on the rear of the keyboard. Correct ?

I'm looking for something compact to minimize transport effort. The external PaAs amplification system seems greats but it means yet another extra cost and something more to carry.

I'm playing most of the time in indoor conditions and small scenes, so I don't need a big amplification system. I don't know why a keyboard should come with no amp and no desk ... even if it is a workstation ...

The PA4X does not have on board speakers. You will need external amplification. There is a speaker system that plugs into the back of the PA4X and attaches to the unit itself. It is called the PaaS system and the speakers are angled toward you. With the combination of the sound processing within the PA4X and the speaker system, many users really like it. Other people will provide their own external amplification.

The PA700 and PA1000 have built in speaker systems. The PA700 has a 50-watt stereo amplifier and dual speakers (one for each side). The PA1000 has a 66-watt stereo amplifier inside and features a dual speaker system (woofer and tweeter on each side).

If this is what you want, then the choice is fairly obvious between the PA700 and PA1000.

I do not see it as a problem that the flagship arranger does not have on board speakers. I am not sure that Korg could design something that would truly bring the quality of the keyboard to life.

With that said, I have a PA700 and am more than happy with its on board system. I play at nursing homes for a living (well, I did before COVID hit our shores), and there were only 3 places out of 50 that I did every month that required external amplification outside of the PA700 itself. The sound systems built into these units are robust enough to fill most rooms.

Korg’s PAAS is 2x20W plus 1x40W sub so it may not ne powerful enough for your gig needs.

At £389 for the PAAS you could buy a pair of powered Monitors for half the price,

You are right, but none of powered monitors are not as easy to connect as PaAS, which is dedicated solution.

Not to mention that the PAAS is primarily aimed at YOU. It’s not really designed to be so you can play TOWARDS people. In a small enough room there might be a fair degree of spill, but those tweeters are pointed at you, not ‘them’...

You might try looking at something like a small Lucas Nano system or a small line array system like the Bose Compact if you are playing for other people. At least the speakers will be pointed at THEM!

In a pair od Monitors you will have a considerably larger pair of Bass speakers compared to the small ones fitted in the PAS.

That said, do note that Korg also have their Konnect PA system with 140W for £350.

On a different tack but still related to Monitors, with a pair of say PreSonus Eris 5 EX to get you started at some stage you can add a Sub Woofer and possibly a Parametric Graphic Equaliser to give you a highly customisable and tuneable system for your home studio.
