Hello group.

Today I entered a drum track manually.
After sending it to DAW I noticed some of the beats were too loud and I wanted to bring all beats to same volume.
I tried a sound processing normalize function but it did not work as expected, neither did a limiter function.

I could discover no other way on the M50 either, except to go into track events and change all the velocities to the same value manually.

For the next time..... is there a faster way to do this?

In the Sequencer Menus, you should have the ability to change velocity on any track. This would allow you to change the velocity on any note in the sequence to whatever you want it to be. If you want them all the same volume, then go into that track in the Sequencer Menu and change the velocity. If you want to change individual notes, you can do it there too.

Go into the sequencer, hit the Menu button and that should bring you into the sequencer edit menu section.

Select the track you want to edit.

Hit the upper right button on the screen and you will bring up another menu.

Select Modify Velocity and make your changes

All of this is on Page 166 in the manual.

I found this page and I tried it before having to edit each entry manually. It did not give the desired results so I gave up and did it the hard way.

I suppose the root of the problem is that I do not fully understand what to enter into this window.

You have a start and end track, which I believe is simple enough to enter. Then you have beat tick for start track and beat tick for end track,... i think, which I guess I leave alone.

Then there is note range, which I assume I leave alone, then you have velocity start and velocity end values, which I would now guess would be both set to the desired velocity (lets say 30) ?
and then intensity value, which I have no idea about, so I would leave it alone.

Well, I just did it and .... it worked this time.
I have a feeling the first time I tried, I may not have set the start velocity to the desired final value perhaps.

I am glad to help. My M50 does not see a lot of sequencer use these days, as I have the PA700 to do most of my sequencing. The M50 has the advantage of being able to layer different tracks to the same MIDI channel. The PA700 does not do this but the editing is right up there and even beyond what my other sequencers do.

The Velocity thing is a bit weird on the M50 when adjusting; I find it easier on the PA700.

If you are adjusting the entire track, then the start tick would be the first beat of the measure and the end tick is the last beat of the measure. You can also select the measures that you want to have the velocity adjusted. Usually, at least in my experience, that is the beginning and end of a track.

The Note Range would be the range of notes that you want to have the vlocity adjusted. I find that I adjust the hi-hats more often than any other drum sound and those are designated to certain notes on the keyboard.

The velocity start and end is the range in which the velocity starts at and ends at. The intensity value, I believe, is the intensity of the velocity itself. That information is on page 203. The higher the intensity, the more it will be within the velocity range you selected. Page 204 also talks about the velocity curves that you can select. I usually would use Curve 1.

I am glad that you were able to find it and get something that works for you.

The M50 is a wonderful instrument still, but I mainly use mine for solo sounds now, including custom distored lead guitar sounds that I have made.
