Today in a local music store here in Alkmaar in the Netherlands, we where discussing a rumor thats been around here for quite some time..

Korg working together with Reason (propellerhead) and integrating gadgets sequencer as well as the gadgets and other software into reason studio? To make the integration feel natural, all korg and reason need to do is creating a nice combinator for each of the gadgets and VST..

Technically with reason supporting VST the gadgets allready work on Reason. I think implementing the sequencer as a player into the rack, would be a very nice addon..

Personally i think that combining a workstation with a daw and fully integrating them to feel like one entity holds the future.

Its just that i am not a big fan of Reasons sequencer. Altough reason racks as plugins work really well in any daw, sadly you can not use vst inside the reason rack for obvious reasons..

Personally I think it will never happen as there’s no standard protocol for any of this so it would require companies to team up to produce a joint product, as well as share costs and profits. It also won’t make most people happy as we all use so many different sequencers as our DAW.

KORG are better off just flying solo and to continue developing the workstation as is. Throw a cherry on top and allow it to run VST’s. If they don’t, someone else will. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit if Native Instruments dropped a Keyboard in the next year that runs KOMPLETE 13 in standalone mode. No PC.

Their MASCHINE+ is already pretty damn close to being just that.

Just thinking.....

AKAI maybe also about to enter the Workstation market. There’s leaked cad drawings and technical specs for a product called “AKAI MPC Key 61” on the internet.

Nothing new there… we all know their mpk keyboards…
This looks like a logical step to me..
