Effects on bass

Just a general query. Do you use any effects on the bass in styles, or do you just use them dry? Also, what freqencies do you cut or boost for clarity in basslines? Cheers.
On the PA4x, I run the bass and drums to outputs 2 and 3, so onboard effects are bypassed. I use a Zoom B1 Four bass multieffect on the bass, and put it through a compressor/limiter with the Ampeg B15 amplifier/speaker cab model.
