Lower sound velocity issue

Hi all,
Sorry if this question is answered somewhere. I checked online and in the manual and spent a few hours on the keyboard and could not figure it out
When I select a KeyboardSet (sound) from any of the internal PA5x sounds, I can select and play any Lower Sound and it works totally fine with proper velocity characteristics (little pressure, lower sound... more pressure, louder volume). However, I've loaded a KST file that has some user sounds. When I select any KeyboardSet from this KST, the Lower Sound is not working unless I apply a lot of pressure.
I tried even selecting an internal sound, going to settings and LOCKing LOWER SOUND. When I do that, the sound itself gets locked but the velocity settings change again.
The only work around that I've found is if I select an internal KeyboardSet and then manually select Upper 1, 2, and 3... But this is a lot of work as there are hundreds of sounds.
Any support will be greatly appreciated!!

Another possibility is that the sound set that you bought or downloaded uses external samples and that they didn't normalize the samples, and then they can have a much lower db level then the internal samples.

most likely, the keyboard sets that you imported have a custom level set for the lower sounds.
Most of the internal sounds have a level more then 100 for the lower sounds. So you can check this as follows:
- select a style
- select the keyboard set you have downloaded in your pa5x
- press the mixer tab on the screen
- be sure that at the right bottom of the screen the button says: pads kbd (if not press this button until it says pads kbd)
- now check the value of the lower sound on your screen, probably it says 20 or something like that, raise the value to 115
that should solve it, it's probably a design decision of the programmer of that soundset so that it fits better in the mix.

Thanks for your response.
However, this is definitely not the issue.
The problem is more along the lines of some threshold that is set for the lower sound where if i don’t put enough force, it will not sound.
I will take a video later and show.

with force do you mean aftertouch or just the velocity control?
did you check the settings of the keyboard ensemble (for instance the range velocity for the three upper parts compared to the lower ones? (press the menu button and then keyboard ensemble

A "KST folder with sounds" normally is a custom SET imported in Pa5X from previous models , if this SET was made in Pa4X/Pa1000
conversion was made properly without Global Setting , which means that settings are the same Pa5X factory settings.
All issues have to do exclusively with translated KBD SET preferences where you have to edit and comfort them for yourself.
Pressure you describe seems theoretically as After touch but it is not ... It's the velocity settings of lower layer that value of
bottom velocity is set over 60 while it should be zero.
Go to the
Home > Menu > Keyboard/Ensemble > Range/Velocity page and adjust lower layer bottom velocity to zero and done.
You have to extensively read manual if you want to customize KBD SET & Effects , else use only PaSeries factory resources.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the response.
I tried what you told me but there is no option for lower sound to set the range. I also thought of that but maybe i’m looking at the wrong place for this?
I took a 1 min video to show the exact issue but unsure if there is a place to upload and share here?

I was referring to page 426 of Pa5X manual , but you're right , there is not lower layer velocity option there , only for 3 upper.
Lower sound is following the SOUND velocity settings so you have to explore used SOUND and if this Sound behaves as you describe
then you have to edit sound and adjust low velocity value of played OSC to 1.
As concerning to video you can upload it anywhere you like and publish here sharing link.

I’ve uploaded the video here:

Let me know if you can view it.
Ive read up to about page 900 of the manual but couldn’t find anything for this issue. It may be a glitch when converting from older models.
I can’t imagine it is a sound edit type issue because no matter what lower sound I select, it has the same problem.

- Try to test the selected in lower keys user sound in SOUND Edit mode if it behaves the same at low velocity !
- Try another factory KBD SET for this style and remark behavior.
- Do not use plucked instruments , try a constant Pad for lower.
- Do not enable ensemble to test it , settings might be fault.
If still persists then Style KBD Set settings have wrong parameters somewhere that I can't guess ...

my guess is that you are using velocity ranges in the sound itself and that your lower velocity values don't point to the correct samples.
it's easy to check:
- press the rec edit button
- select sound edit
- select the sound you are refering to in your lower sound
- press the menu button
- press the basic tab
- select the velocity range tab at the right side of your screen
- now below you see the numbers 1 - 24, the highlighted ones are the one in use
- press the number 1 (first oscillator
- in the velocity zone you see on which velocity this osc 1 reacts)
- check this for all your numbers
probably the bottom value of the velocity zone isn't 1 but probably 65 or something like that, and one of the other oscs is pointing to a sample for the range 1-64
the easy way to solve it is, to set all the bottom values to 1 (so for each osc), then save the sound and it's solved., Although the original sound probably had more samples assigned to it.

If he will test custom sound in sound edit mode ( as was my primary suggestion ) and it has the same low velocity no audio output
then Sound OSC does not trigger wrong samples (MS) ...
Simply low velocity value uses missing custom samples (MS) that were lost after conversion ...
Created XML in Korg Disk after conversion would had pointed it out !
