Anything you alter in any element in all PaSeries is temporary until saved.
In Pa5X you can't save in factory positions so if you alter a Sound / Keyboard Set in your case ,
you have to save this KBD Set in your User Banks , then your piano FX editing will be permanent.

Reverb

Seems Crazy, there should be a master reverb key or footswitch control to just turn the reverb off when not required

there is a general setting for that in the korg pa5x.

Steps:
go to settings - menu button - general controls
in the top section of the basic tab you can set it to any value you like, for instance -50 removes all the reverb from everything in your pa5x. I have set mine to -5.

if you want to have full control over it during your songs then just apply CC12 to the user fader of your choice. Then when assign the CC12 to the SRC value of your wet/dry parameter of your reverb(s) and save that style in your songbook with the song name. Now you can set the reverb with the CC12 fader in your user fader section (the bottom button next to the hardware faders)

I have globally disabled the reverb on the PA5X since I prefer to control reverb through the Alesis outboard effects unit... this allows me to adjust reverb for each individual track/instrument dynamically while I'm playing (and looping on the loopstation)...

Actually in software version 1.1.0, disabling the reverb unit-wide had no effect until I rebooted the instrument. With 1.2.0 this appears to be fixed, so can turn it on and off without a reboot.

You can assign custom parameters to the faders in your user area (which you can access by pressing the user button). There you can also assign for instance CC12 and CC13 (which are generic midi Control changes) to fader 1 and fader 2.

the Pa5X has a modulation matrix, where you can route faders to certain parameters, the most easy ones are the dry / wet parameters of insert and master effects (there are more assignable parameters but that is more for the advanced users).

So this gives you the possibility to add for instance a distortion on a solo guitar, when you assign the CC12 (control change) which you have assigned to the first fader, then you can start with a clean solo guitar signal and by moving the fader 1 up you can add distortion to that signal to your liking.

The same applies to the reverb (or any other effect in the pa5x). you can then fully control your reverb level for that specific song for the effects you assigned it to.

You can do this with the following steps:
- assign CC12 to fader 1 in your user settings
- now go to the style or song you want to play
- go to the reverb you want to control (for instance the master effects 1)
- in the bottom of the reverb you can set the dry wet level, set this to dry
- you also see the word: SRC behind that dry wet level on the screen, select the CC12 over there
- in the value behind that set the value to 100
- save this as a song in your songbook (or as a user style if you like that more).

now whenever you want to add reverb just press the user button and fader 1 controls the reverb (or any other effect you have this assigned on) with the values from 0 - 100

And that is just the start, you can go a lot further, for instance use master effects as insert effects, only hear the effects, use limited ranges (for instance a distortion level of 20 till 40) it's all possible.
