Kross 2 Missing Effects

I recently purchased a used Kross 2 61 SE White, from Japan, and I noticed that all of the modulation effects, delays and reverbs are missing from the IFX section. They're listed under MFX, but not IFX.
I contacted Korg Support, but the tech was baffled, and suggested that I contact the seller. I restored the factory PCG's, but that didn't resolve the issue.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Many of the effects used in the Kross are "single" size effects, but there are also "double" size effects, that effectively use up two FX slots. Could it be that the Kross' IFX section is using four out of the maximum of 5. If that's the case, the "double" sized effects won't be available. Check an Init Program or Init Combi, to see if the limitation is still present.

Thank you for your reply. It was informative, but unfortunately, did not resolve the issue. I tried to Init Combi, but the missing effects were still not listed under IFX.

Hmmm, seems strange. No wonder the Korg Support person was baffled.

Have you tried a System Reset (Turn on power whilst holding down the EXIT button and button 8)? Followed by a Load Preload/Demo data, using the Global menu.

Thanks again for the reply.
Did (2) System Reset's, and they're still missing. Interestingly, after the reset, my custom User bank combi's were still intact. I thought the whole system would be cleared and restored to factory settings!?
Also, has anyone successfully held down the EXIT & 8 buttons, while powering on? My fingers did not reach, and I had to use a special contraption to extend far enough to reach and press both buttons.

Hi,

I could not find back the list, telling exactly which effects can be used for IFX and which ones for MFX. But most likely you may be hitting this spec point/limitation of the Kross:
Total of 134 effect types of which 74 types can be selected for insert effects, 101 types for master effect 1, and 120 types for master effect 2.

Have fun.

Found it back:
IFX1 -> single effect 1 to 63, double effect 0 to 10. (total 74)
IFX2 -> single effect 1 to 61, double effect 0 to 10. (total 72)
IFX3 -> single effect 1 to 61, double effect 0 to 9. (total 71)
IFX4 -> single effect 1 to 61, double effect 0 to 9. (total 71)
IFX5 -> single effect 1 to 61, double effect N/A. (total 61)
MFX1 -> single effect 1 to 87, double effect 0 to 13. (total 101)
MFX1 -> single effect 1 to 120, double effect N/A (total 120)

The numbers refer to the number of the effect in the effect guide of the manuals. I also digged up the ranges there.
There may be some off-by-one errors in it as it does not look consistent at first sight.

Bye

+1 to OpAmp. It's the nearest I can get to a "like" button ;-)

Great summary, OpAmp! The specs that Korg released are somewhat misleading in this area. You really have to dig into the detail to discover that there are pretty significant details on which effects can be run simultaneously.

Though I was under the impression that IFX1 to IFX4 all had identical effects, so curious to know what extra effects IFX1 has? Is it the vocoder or similar?

Small update - I Kross checked it ;) (Kross 1)

IFX1 -> single effect 1 to 63, double effect 0 to 10. (total 74)
IFX2 -> single effect 1 to 61, double effect 0 to 9. (total 71) - reduced by 1 compared to previous post (ParamGuide is not correct, at least my version)
IFX3 -> single effect 1 to 61, double effect 0 to 9. (total 71)
IFX4 -> single effect 1 to 61, double effect 0 to 9. (total 71)
IFX5 -> single effect 1 to 61, double effect N/A. (total 61)

MFX1 -> single effect 1 to 87, double effect 0 to 13. (total 101)
MFX2 -> single effect 1 to 120, double effect N/A (total 120) - MFX2 iso MFX1

So IFX1 has 3 additional effects compared to IFX2, IFX3, IFX4: Organ Vib/Chorus (single 62), Rotary Speaker (single 63) and Rotary SpeakerOD (double 10).
IFX5 can not use any double effect, as there is no IFX6 to fit it in.
Same story for MFX2, it can not use any double effect, as there is no MFX3 to fit it in. MFX2 on the other hand can be configured with any of the single effects.
Looks like Korg wants to control a bit where the Reverbs are ending up in the chain...

Have fun!

Hi All! I recently made some programs combis and favorites for my original Kross 61.

IFX 1-5 typically reserve the utility effects:
Distortion, Wah, Compression, Limiter, Para EQ, Phaser, etc.

MFX 1 and 2 allow the fancier shared effects
Chorus, Delay, Reverb, Rotary Speaker, etc.

I assume this was done to maximize effects processing power.

If a program or combi uses a chain of IFX,
The last effect of the IFX BUS will have S1 and S2 sends to the MFX.

If a program or combi instrument uses just MFX
The BUS and SEND will have options to send S1 and S2 to MFX,
And,
The MFX MASTER SEND will have the effects return amounts,
And,
Each MFX effect has a WET/DRY blend.

For a Rhodes Layered with a Synth Brass

The Rhodes might have IFXs for limiter, Phaser and EQ
The Rhodes might use MFX Chorus with
Send 15-20 Return 127 and Mix 10-90
The Brass might use MFX Chorus and Dynamic Delay with
Sends of 20-30, Return 30-50 and Mix 20-80.

Hope this helps!
