Intro1 Doesn't Work

Hey guys

My Intro1 stopped working, the light is on but if you press it nothing happens, it works if i go into 'Style El. Marker' mode and click on the touch screen. I'm running's 1.21 on 5x

Even before, it happened few times where it would play up, however now it doesn't work at all, I did a factory reset and it didn't fix the issue, I tried reinstalling the OS again, however because Intro1 doesn't work, now I cant even load the OS.

Is there any other way to to trigger OS reinstall? Can I hold any other button when starting the keyboard?

I'm 100% sure that the bug is in OS, and not in physical button, so if i can somehow reload the OS it will come back.

Anyone?

From you description, it looks more like a HW issue than a SW issue. I had faced this kind of problems in the past with my PA900. A lot of buttons, worked intermittently, until they one day stopped working altogether (including the power button).

Since I'm an electronics engineer and I work in that industry, I had access to those tools and I could fix the buttons. The problem is that the contacts inside the buttons get oxidized overtime and then they stop making the necessary contacts to enable proper working. If the KB is still in warranty, take it to the nearest Korg service and they will fix it for you.

Does it happen to any Pa5X factory Style ?

For some reason i believe that its OS issue, they had issues for Intro1 since the first OS.

It happens to factory and my user styles, light is on, it flashes, it just wont engage the Intro1, it just started happening one morning, i hardly even ever press it, its not like it was used much.

Now i need it for some styles and i cant engage it, or even update the OS, i cant believe that they haven't made another way to reinstall the OS.

There is nothing to do with OS , do not try it !
Also forget non compatible styles from older models , your criteria will be strictly internal factory styles.

This you describe is crystal clear button hardware issue and this button's internal micro switch for unknown reason must be replaced !
Maybe defective from scratch !

I'm pretty sure you changed the output volume somewhere in your workflow. Recheck all volume settings in the mixer, output settings, style, and MENUs

Anyone?

Its not the Volume,
It definitely could be the switch not engaging, because it works if you engage it on the touchscreen, just not the physical button, i can also see that 'Exit' button is halfway in kind of collapsing as well, which is a good indication that we are all going to have some major issues with 5X buttons.

Bugger!!!!!

I already told, how I suffered with my PA900. If one switch fails, then you can be sure that the remaining will also fail within the next 6 months. The problem is that the microswitch contacts are Nickel plated (for obvious cost reasons), which results in oxidation of the same and eventual degradation in performance. In the automotive world, we use switches with gold plated contacts and the switch itself is enclosed in a rubber housing to prevent water ingress and oxidation. Hence they work till the life of the vehicle (which is about 10+ years). These switches are definitely way more expensive than the one on the PA5X Arranger.

Now, if you would visit the Korg dealership, they would be able to fix it, but then they would change the entire board, which is quiet expensive.

However, if you have some electronic skills and are willing to take a fair amount of risk, you could open up the PA5X; and clean the microswitches with some IPA (use a pressurized IPA canister for cleaning, I used to get a can of it from Maplin, when they existed). You can search for some YT videos on how to clean microswitches with IPA. If the switch is broken stubbornly, then it will entail removing the internals of the switch and cleaning. Good luck.

Oxidization of nickel plate is not justified in a new micro switch , probably defected !

I've opened 5x before to change springs on keys, I'll dig around to see how switches are mounted?

What about the Contact Spray from electronic shop? Does that help with those new switches?

Νope , you have discontinuation of contacts , it requires replacement , do not risk guarantee !
