USB Not Being Seen

Post by mabcomp »

Scenario: For some weird reason Lots of MP3 songs in my setlist vanished after the OS 1.3 Upgrade and I've been having to re-establish the missing ones. However, having reloaded from my PC to the USB stick again to transfer to the Book and Setlist, the keyboard doesnt see the USB Stick and I have to reboot the keyboard each time to access it. Any thoughts Guys?

Try a new USB memory stick of a different brand, formatted in the 5X.

I agree with that observation. I had a USB stick formatted in the PC and the PA5X failed to recognize it. I formatted the same in the PA5X and the PC & PA5X both were happy. This is true even with the older PA900. Additionally, I realized that some USB drives don't cooperate well with the Korg (typically the large capacity ones).
I guess the reason maybe the file format. The PA5X uses the FAT32 format, but in the PC we can have both the FAT32 & NTFS format. The NTFS format is superior (similar to Linux ext4) and can handle large filenames, deep nested directories etc., The FAT32 is not so efficient and can cause headaches.
The best way is to try a few USB drives, format them in the PA5X, check the functionality on the PA5X/PC and stick to that drive.

Ok, I guess I jinxed myself. The Sandisk USB stick on the keyboard was not recognized, yesterday during a small gig. I unplugged the stick and reconnected it a few times on the style selection screen, but no joy. Then I did the same on the home screen, and voila the USB was recognized. So looks like a bug in the USB detection, although it has happened twice only for me.
Try to plug the USB from the home screen and it may work. If multiple USB sticks are failing to be recognized, then definitely it is a hardware issue. I know for a fact that the USB type A sockets are notorious for going bad after a certain plug-'n-play cycles; we have suffered with these sockets on Automotive infotainment applications (all of a sudden the phone get's disconnected and Android Auto/Car Play stops working, etc.,).

Is the usb stick fitting snug? Some brands have a different tolerance of fit.
I do not use the San Disk ones that fold in. I use Silicon Power Blaze B02 brand. Very solid and shows led when being used. But a bit more pricy.

Those pressure pins get lazy after a while in the USB socket. I recommend an 6” extension and Velcro to keyboard. Keeps the Korg usb port healthy.

A 5X has three USB sockets.

Have you tried the other two sockets?

Additionally have you a Micro SD card in the 5X?

If not I would try one.
