Doubling/Layering a bass sound with itself an octave apart?

Post by leland_iko_music »

Hi (maybe Qui has an excellent response to this one).

I am looking for a way to layer/double a specific syn-bass sound with an octave of itself.

I can already layer two DIFFERENT sounds and save it as a custom keyboard set, but I cannot see anything in the built-in effects listings with an "octaviser" which would enable me to do this with the same sound twice but an octave apart. This coupled with adding chorus and expanding the stereo field would more closely resemble the "Ultrawide Deep Bass" syn-bass sound that built in on the Kronos/Kronos2 - a sound which I REALLY LOVE.

The closest thing that I can find to that particular sound with minimal modification is in the "Legacy" section, the one called "Dr. Octave", but even when adding chorus and expanding stereo width, it's still not quite right.

For now, in order to sort of replicate it, I use the Factory->SynBass Deep, modify the oscillator in Cutoff and Resonance, turning OFF legato setting, and apply chorus and stereo expansion and it SORT OF matches what I'm looking for in a single octave, but not with the added octave. To overcome that, when I'm doing live loops, I multi-track the bass-line so basically play the line twice an octave apart, which is a bit of a time-waster.

Thanks in advance

Leland

With your Layered Keyboard being displayed press the Menu button then select Mixer.

In the right pane of the LCD display Main should be highlighted,

Tap on the Second sound ie the one you want to change its tuning then tap on Tuning in the right pane.

Adjust as required and save your Keyboard Set.

I have just tried this on my 5X and it works.

Whilst you can access Mixer directly from the LCD display the above route gives more options.

If you don‘t want to layer a bass sound (or edit a matching sound it on your own by duplicating an oscillator a tune it 12 semitones down) you can use the stereo pitch shifter as an IFX. With that effect you can add an octave down version of the sound and also detune it slightly...
