Anyone heard any solution to the "Timeout" message when transmitting from PC to KP3?
I just bought mine and cannot get any files to upload to the KP3 from my PC. This is a HUGE part of why i bought this thing and in reading the forum I see several people commenting on this same issue back in January.

You should probably contact Korg so they know that yet another person has this problem. A while back the sent me a new driver but that didn't work and I haven't heard from them since. The might be under the assumption that it's an isolated issue.

I tried it with a new machine right our of the box and it still failed, so I know it's not anything I installed that is causing a conflict. You can still put the KP3 into USB mode and then drag and drop files from your PC into it, but the editor offers more features.

Yeah, I emailed korg and mentioned that others on this forum have had the same problem. I will post their response on the Forum.

I hate so say it, but I'm releaved that it wasn't just me with this problem. As I mentioned before, you can initiate USB mode which will make an SD card in the KP3 appear as a drive letter on your PC. Then you can drag wave file to the SD card and the load them into the KP3.

You can also use the editor to create a bank, and then save the bank to the SD card. You shouldn't have to do this, but its a decent workaround. The KP3 has to be out of USB mode to use the editor normally.

I should actually write this all down when I'm in front of my KP3 and put it in the tips and tricks.

Hey, just a thought - but the troubleshooter in me thinks this may be a port conflict. I've had these sort of issues with other USB devices, and I usually had to try some other ports to get this resolved. Since I added a hub, most of these kind of issues have never reappeared.

I need to test my KP3 and get back to this thread with the results...

Oh and btw, don't hold your breath with Korg.

This is most certainly a port/setup issue.

The usual trouble-shooting applies:

Did you install the USB Driver? According to the instructions?



Is the unit on the same USB port that you installed the driver on? This is true of all drivers on a PC - they are installed seperately for each port.

In the Preferences on the Editor are you "seeing" the KP3? Turn off the "Auto Detect" and manually look at the settings to be sure.

Start here and let's see your answers - this does work!

Thanks for jumping in Jerry! Is it still a port issue if the KP3 connects and then sends a timeout message during the transfer?

Here is what I sent to someone at Korg before I gave up on getting it to work on my pc and moved it to my mac instead.

I loaded "01. Loop 112" Into the editor and clicked the button for sending all data.
A dialog box with a progress meter opened up saying "Transmit sample bank A" .
The small display window on the KP3 changed to led's rotating quickly around the window.
After making it about 25% of the way through, the meter just stopped and the display on the KP3 returned to normal.
About a second later a dialog box shows up saying "timeout"

If I just sending a single bank from the drum file demo, the progress bar moves pretty quickly to the end and then pauses then the KP3 display goes back to normal and then I get the timeout.

So on the pc it seems to be some sort of handshaking issue at the end of the transmission of a sample bank. I am guessing that the "Transmit All" is failing as soon as the pc has sent all of sample bank A. I moved the KP3 back to the mac and the progress window on the mac changed to "Transmit Sample Bank B" at around the same point where the pc failed. The single bank fails on the pc no matter how large or small the bank is.

I have not tried to receive anything from the KP3 at all yet.

The machine that I just tested on is a Dell Lattitude laptop with a gig of ram and an intel core duo 2ghz processor. The machine is brand new out of the box with nothing else installed on it. The mac I am using is an old 800Mhz G4

I played with the editor some more last night. I am able to send and receive any non-sample material such as the global settings. I only get the timeout when I try to send and receive any sample from the editor.

I've had my KP3 for 2 weeks now, and haven't been able to get it to recieve or transmit sample data, to and from the computer. I've tried all the USB ports on my pc, and i've changed the settings to and from Auto Detect on these as well.

I've tried all the obvious stuff, from reseting my pc, pluging everything in before i switch things on. But i am able to take sample data off my SD card. Its just the KP3 editor that doesn't work when it comes to sending and recieving.

I would like to know has anybody actually managed to get this feature to work yet? If not, i suggest to Korg that a software upgrade is needed, or to a patch that can fix this problem.

Hmmm. It does sound like there's some potential issues with the editor software itself. I wonder if the installation of the software has something to do with some folks not connecting at all via USB.

I really need to try this myself instead of speculating.

I'll attempt to do some transferal of files to and from the SD card before I install the editor software on my PC. I also have a Mac, so I could do double duty on this. Been really busy, but I'll try to do this in the next couple nights at home.

So I have been in contact with Brian from Korg to resolve this issue. Here is a summary of our conversations, hope it helps.

Here is my last email back to Brian at Korg:

Brian,

So I got a simple bass drum sample to transmit.
I put the KP3 into USB mode and confirmed that it was
showing up in the Device Manager.
Confirmed that the driver was installed on both front
mounted USB ports.
Imported a sample from a NI Battery Library and then
transmitted to Bank A.
I am not connecting to anything with Midi, so I still
don't know if that is an issue.

I don't see where the KP3 would show up as a midi device?
It does show up in Device Manager as a USB audio device.
I have been trying all kinds of different samples:
Ones I have made or pre-made samples.
16 bit
24 bit
wav and aiff
mono and stereo
1 hit bass drums to 4 bar bass lines

The USB port I am using is on the computer front.

What Brian and I are trying to say is that if you properly installed the USB-MIDI Driver and the KP3 editor it will not just be an "Audio Device" in your Device manager, it will say KP3. In the KP3 Editor there will be specifically labelled choices for the MIDI connections that will say KP3 in them. It seems like your setup is not showing this, so I think you have not gotten the drivers set up correctly. I've done this more on my Mac, so I will do this on the PC and try to get you exact details. But I "think" that the issue is your not being set up right, not the Editor itself. OK?

I think Jerry is right, based on my experience with this so far. I believe Mac people are not having the issue because Macs are inherently more user-friendly when it comes to plug-n-play situations.
(This is not meant to fire up the age old and VERY tired mac-vs-pc conversation)

Hey greendrum, have you tried the editor when you are NOT in usb mode? USB mode is just for transferring data directly to the SD card. I get an instant timeout message on my mac when I try the editor in USB mode.

My timeout messgage doesn't happen instantly. It seems to happen after a sample is transmitted.

I'm confused.

I have USB on from KP3 end & trying to send a sample. Time out....???

Checked editor setting. I'll try again some time...I'm very happy with my KP3!!!! It's the nuts!

Using sample that came with the down load editor. I down loaded everything from Korg UK site. Didn't use the disc that came with it.

De-install everything & start again?

A quick get you started guide would of really helped...bit like the EMX1 quick.

Any chance of video tutorials?
