pad kontrol sensitivity

Post by liviofesta »

hello,
I recently bought a Pad Kontrol, and I noticed something that in my opinion may affect the overall performance, that is NOT ALL pads have the same sesitivity to touch.
Some pads have greater sensitivity and respond to very soft touches, while others need a heavier touch to start to respond. That's not great for a rithm instrument, especially if you want to play something like ghost notes on some pads. I read about the shortcuts for tuning the overall sensitivity for the pads, but in my case it's about making all the pads have the same sensitivity. Anyone experienced the same issue? And do you think i could contact my local assistance for a check?

Hello,
I have the same problem with my Kontrol49, some pads are more sensitive, some pads I cannot hit 127 with, curious if Korg has a hardware or software fix or recommendation for this problem.

I just got my padKONTROL yesterday and overall I am very happy with it... but like 'liviofesta' mentioned, I’ve found that the pads don’t all have the same sensitivity and that some just don't trigger as well as they should… while I believe the pads on the padKONTROL are probably more touch sensitive than most if not all the pad controllers currently in the market, it can and does get quite annoying when there’s a specific pad or two that just isn’t as responsive and sensitive as the rest of the pads… it isn’t that of a big deal, but when you’re playing out your drums/synths.. hit record, play out your pattern and that one pad just doesn’t trigger no matter how hard you may just have hit it, it gets a bit frustrating… there are times when I’d be hitting this one pad about 10 times in a row and it just won’t trigger/light up… usually it happens when I’m not hitting the pad too hard, but I can hit another pad with the same general feather like velocity and it will always trigger!

I’m assuming this must be a manufacturing fault under that specific pad where say for example the ‘velocity sensor’ (if I may so put it) just wasn’t laid out properly on its circuitry or whatever… I’ve been thinking about getting it fixed, but I’m not sure how much that would also achieve and whether it’s all worth it… I kind of don’t like the idea of having something new pulled apart just because two or three pads aren’t as responsive as the rest… it’s something I can deal with but still a bit disappointing when you expect something to function with overall quality and consistency across all pads…

With that all said though, I am still curious to know if everyone is having the same problem?! Is this just a general all around and inevitable flaw you have to expect with all the padKONTROL’s? or am i just unlucky to have picked up a new padKONTROL with poor assembly...? I guess it would give me a little peace of mind to know if it were the same case for everyone… at least that way I can view it as a kind of flaw which gives a unique character to each own padKONTROL… lol

has no one else found to have the same issue?
i've read the sticky on the pad calibration tip, but i've found that it hasn't made any difference in calibrating or adjusting the sensitivity of the pads on my pad kontrol...

I just dig for this old topic as I have somewhat similar problem with sensitivity (not so annoying though). I checked it : pads on the bottom-left are most sensitive (it is enough to touch these in the last row to get response) while these on the top-right require more force to response. I also experience unkind side-effect of oversensitive 13th pad - when I strongly hit 14th pad, 13th also lights up (althought didn't hit it) - and the MIDI message of 13th and 14th is sent simultaineously. Can I fix it somehow myself? (I already opened my padKONTROL to fix the data encoder, it looks simple inside). I should have remark that I already read the calibration tip, but I preffer to stay with factory setting, to keep 4th pad (the one least sensitive) sensitive enough.

Best regards,

did you buy these second hand? try setting factory defaults, or go through your manual and check out the various velocity curves and sensitivty settings that you can select.

Thanks for answer. The hardware is new (but I cannot return it already and btw. I already repaired it once) and I think the problem is hardware related... I will open the cover once again one day and see... currently it is not a big problem.

Pads not firing consistently

Post by oddmachine »

If this is a software issue, I can't find any solutions anywhere. This is not an overall calibration problem because as the above posters mentioned, it's inconsistent across the keys.

I love the concept of the Padkontrol and can't figure out if I need to buy a new one because I got a dud, or if it's just not well-constructed. Any thoughts?

I'm glad that other people are seeing this same thing and it is just not me being crazy. On mine, I noticed a major difference between pad 9 and pad 10.

Just as OP said, completely different sensitivities.

I also noticed that if I hit them both at the same velocity, pad 9 would trigger in the 50-60 range and pad 10 would trigger in the 20-30 range.

Should I return this? It's only 3 days old. Am I just being too picky? Are all padKontrols like this?

Thanks.

"Me too."

Obviously this is just how they're manufactured. Sigh. :(
