Blanking plugs for optical sockets

Post by Danr »

Hi
Through live use I've lost one of the little plastic blanking plugs
that go in the S/P dif optical sockets on my Extreme 61.
As they stick out they get knocked off when in the case and are a bit of a pain.
I can't find replacements here in UK.Any one know where I can
find them, preferrably flat ones that won't get knocked out?
Also should the sockets both be red as only the output socket is lit.
Any help appreciated

Hi Danr

My triton is the same mate - only the output glows. Never knew they were supposed to be blanked though.

You will probably find that they are a generic SPDIF blank and that any will fit.

Thanks for the reply.I thought that maybe the 'optical in' had stopped working.
The blanking plugs were there from new so I'm guessing that the sockets
need to be plugged. It's probably to prevent physical damage to the
light.

Hi,

When I got my 61 note extreme it had flat blanking plugs! Later I swapped it (plus cash!) for a 76 note version but I noticed the 76 noter had bits sticking off the blanking plugs. I swapped them before exchanging though. Anyway, on closer examination afterwards I realised that in fact the flat ones had simply been snapped off and filed down!! Why not try it.

On the subject of getting replacements, they're the same as the ones used for ADATs and soundcards (e.g. MOTU 2408) so maybe you could approach some other companies for them?

www.studiospares.com have a forum, perhaps you could ask there.

Finally, the optical output is red because it is sending optical signals (i.e. light) and the input is not (the input receives the red light from another output). So, only one glows.

BTW, the covers just keep the dust and other dirt off the lenses which is only really important if you use low quality optical cables that are long.

Got a good question there - did much checking and these things seem to be as elusive as the grail itself

Any SPDIF/Toslink socket cap will work

I didn't realize that something so common would be so hard to find

It's as if nobody would ever loose an optical socket dust cap so there's no reason to sell em

Anyway - here is a link which sells such things, I've never used them before so I'm not personally recommending them but they seem to be the only company that offers what you need - other than contacting Korg

Good Luck
