Volume Control From USB Port

Post by Bernie9 »

I sometimes play SMF files from my laptop through the PA800 engine. It is difficult to adjust the volume on the fly with my mouse. The only way I know is to adjust the volume control on the PA800, but this affects all volume. Is there a way of adjusting the USB volume only ? Or, can I send that to a mixer ?

Pa800 connection to PC question.....

Post by sehasafade12 »

Hi Bernie:

Here I am asking you a question instead of helping. Reason why I am unable to help is my lack of knowledge when it comes to MIDI connection. I really do need some help and direction regarding connecting my Pa800 to my comuter. I have an Apple G5 computer. The MIDI connection should be the same as with the PC. I have a software called GarageBand that has lots of instrumental sounds that could be used. A While back I connected the Pa800 to my computer via USB ports. I was able to play the keyboard and hear some of the GarageBand instrumental sounds. But unbale to use the Pa800's accompaniment and chords section. Is it possible to use the instrumental sounds of your PC and at the same time be able to use the accompaniment and chords of Pa800. Sorry for the dumb question but I have never done this and wondering if it is possible and what is a good STEP BY STEP direction. If you have time, please if possible help me. Thanks.

Best Regards,

Fahim, :D

Hi Fahim
First of all, I am just learning the PA800, but will outline what I have done to see if there is any relevance,

I am sending data to keyboard via USB. I have installed the driver. I have chosen the" PA800 Sound" from my computer. I receive the information from the sequencer into the PA800 with no interference at all with style play.

Someone here with more knowledge of the OS may be able to tell you why you can't use your styles unless you have made the PA800 a slave, and have a midi connection. I haven't dealt with the midi connections on this keyboard.

I am talking about SMF's from an exterior sequencer. You are dealing with sounds from an exterior source.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Thanks Bernie for your respond. I am going to read the manual again tonight and see what step is missing. Also I am %100 sure that I am forgetting something but just can not pinpoint. Again thank you for your respond and concern. Hope someone could help you soon with your question. Best of luck.

Hi Fahim,
are you trying to use your computer as a soundmodule??
ie you play your keyboard & instead of using all of the PA's internal sounds for style & melody, you want to use some Garage Band sounds?

I don't own an apple & I've only had my pa800 for a few days.

I gather you've got your computer & keyboard up & running? it's just a case of doing the correct midi settings on your keyboard & garage band software. I don't know the software either, but I'm guessing it's some sort of softsynth??

Check out page 245 (Midi ) Playing another Instrument with the PA800
You should be able to use your USB cable instead of Midi Cables.

And then it explains the settings required Page 94 Track Control Mode

The ones you want to play by garage band you set to external, the ones for PA800 you set to internal.

I've got the old version 1 manual, maybe the pages differ if you have a newer manual.

I haven't tried the above yet, but I plan on trying it with my sd2 soundmodule to see if I can get it to work.

Thanks Rikki for the info. I will follow your direction. I am not really familiar with MIDI connection but I am going to try it and see how it works. Again thank you so much for your help. If I remember correctly you have helped me in the past too when I owned my Yamaha PSR3000. But I could be wrong may be it was another Rikki. Best luck.

Hi Fahim,
that's possible.
I belong to a number of forums (& I TALK a Lot) haa haa
I do also have a PSR1500 & a Ketron SD1+.

If I get a chance, I'll try connecting my PA to one of my softsynths & see if it works.

The main thing is that your Computer & Keyboard are working together.
It should then be just a matter of correct midi settings.

best wishes
Rikki
