Midi to USB help.

I went to a shop and asked for assistance for midi to computer. The guy promptly directed me over to a shelf.
I bought a "Mistar midi to usb" (the "a" replaced with a star)
When i got home i realised that it is for win XP and macs.
I am running win 2000. I tried it anyway it reconised it, tryed loading stuff but when it got to found usb audio device, the system restarted and just looped. i.e start, found, restart, found, restart, found, restart.
Unplug the thing and the machine is fine.
Please tell me i don't have to upgrade to XP or Vista and tell me if their is some generic driver to sort this.
I want to regain the default settings for the M1.
