recording separate tracks at the same time in protools

i would like to record a song sequence into protools via my mbox. Is there a faster way then recording 1 track at a time and then aligning them in protools?
in addition to a midi connection, do i also need to connect the TE via analogue outputs?

would you reccomend spdif for a clearer sound?
