sample time decreasing/not working at all? ESX1

So, I was able to get some decent mono samples and then rather suddenly, my sample time shortened and now, I cannot sample at all. The record button will not light at all.
I tried erasing some lame preset samples (like I need an operator's voice, or the weird woman singing) and this has not helped.
What happened?
