Confused on how it all comes together

Hey people. I just got this oasys about 2 weeks ago. Still reading through that phonebook of a manual. LOL. anyway this is my first real board. Ive been working with software(not counting my motif rackrount) until up this point. So theres a lot of new concepts im trying to grasp. and coming from software Its quite a big change learning curve wise.

Anyhow what im trying to figure out is how the whole custom sounds/kits work. What I did was load all of my drum sounds that I use with my software(reason,FL) on to the Oasys internal HD. What I want to do now is and make them into kits on the oasys. I figured out the whole global kit editing thing and then making them a program. What I dont understand is how the sounds reload up (after you turn off the oasys). I know there has got to be an easier way then to manually load up each individual sound into ram that you used in the kit.. and the thing is you would have to do it in exact order for it to work right...

How can you save the sounds locations on the HD and the kit at the same time?

Save all!

Then when you want to load, just load that All file.

But you will have to reload all the used sounds on your hard-disk again with the same order into your RAM!
Otherweise you will have no sound in your programs!
This we discussed in Korg-Lab Forums before. You can make a search there.
It is not very userfriendly, I must say, but what can you do?

Yes. The Drum Kits are stored in a "PCG" file (PCG = "Programs, Combinations, and Global data"). The references to the samples are stored in a KSC file. The two files can be saved and loaded together; if you save, they'll be saved with the same name (NAME.PCG and NAME.KSC), and when you load one of these files (e.g. NAME.PCG), you'll be prompted "Load NAME.KSC too?"

Currently, user samples cannot be loaded automatically at startup. So, if you've turned off the power, you'll need to reload the KSC file.

Best regards,

Dan

Does this mean that sample auto-loading is a feature that *will* be added in a future update?

It seems that streaming will decrease polyphony, more samples but less notes :(

The best choice will be to load/unload in memory only the multisample used by current prog/combis/seq.
This means if you want to sequence a song which use 1 prog from Exs-3, 1 prog from Exs-2 and 1 prog from Exs-1, OASYS load only the multisample associated to the prog used and not the full Exs :)
It's a way to reduce the memory usage but perhaps a increase the time when you browse the program because sound is directly listened from Hard drive.

Just an idea but I think Dan has it on his wishlist ;)

Both Jerry and Dan have posted about wanting that feature or having requested it.

E-MU samplers have Bank auto-load. It's a nice feature. You select the BANK button and the default screen looks like this:

BANK AUTO-LOAD

DRIVE: off
FOLDER: off
BANK: off

CANCEL........................................SAVE

You select a bank that you'll be working on and everytime you start up, it's ready to go. Perhaps, the OASYS could have the option to check multiple banks.
