Hi, I haven't posted here before and am thinking about buying an Electribe. I played with an EA1 mkII the other day and was really impressed. This was the first time i've played with any electribes (or any drum machines for that matter) and i'm really confused as to the differences between all of the Electribes. Everone on here seems to have the EMX or ESX.

So basically i'm asking what arae the differences/pros/cons of all of them.

Also if there are any other drum machines along the same lines as the Electribes out there that are worth checking out while i'm in the market for one?

multi-mode filter, LFO, 24 motion sequences, 3 multi FX processors, various oscillator models (FM, sync, noise, formant, etc)

ESX
SAMPLER with 9 parts one shot, 2 melodic parts, 2 stretch parts, 1 slice part
further edition & FX similar to EMX

Hey thanks so much for that..cleared a lot of things up.

I have a Moog Little Phatty so i'm not really that fussed on getting an electribe with great synth capabilities because i'm more than happy with the dirty phat sounds I can get out of that.

I saw an ad for someone selling an EA1 and ER1 for $500AUD so i'm thinking about going for that..would you say that's a decent price for those? Considering i'm not after the latest up to date polished samples but rather weird, lo-fi, electro type drum patterns?

Not in Australia they aint. The EMX and ESX retail for $1800 here!

You can get them much cheaper new if you bargain, but still nothing near the $500 mark.

i don´t have an idea of the US/AUD exchange so i can´t tell you if it´s a big deal

i know the moog is a bass beast, but the EMX can go way further the synth capabilities of the little phatty...and you got 5 synth parts and a collection of classic drum sounds that you can tweak in some ways...the results are way more versatile than you could imagine just looking at the few edit option in the drums section

the EMX is very capable all-in -one electro machine...i think that´s one of the generes this machine could ends with genuine patterns, but it´s suitable for lot of music generes as well...

I make some gigs with just that machine and it rocks...you can get new drums sounds by using a combination of samples with differents pitch/amp/modulation settings...by doing that you get a useful palette of samples

also you could sequence the lithle phatty with one sequencer part


anyway the ER-1 is a really little beast that could delivers delicious eletro rythms with somewhat cheesy feeling, but in a good way...better for breaks stuff more than 4 on the floor styles in my opinion

i don´t like the ea-1, i use to got one...with one oscillator it sound fine but as soon as you get the other in the mix it start to sound dulll...kinda compressed sound...i really don´t like it

Oh I should have made it more clear that the deal is $500 for both the EA1 and ER1. That's why i'm thinking about going for it. Does that seem like a better deal? with a midi keyboard chucked in haha but its a s**t one and I already have one with pads that i'm happy with.

And again i'm talking about Australian dollars

So you are saying that the EMX has drum sounds in it? I didn't know this. This could change my decision. I don't need a huge range. Hmm i'm thinking I may splurge and get an EMX..give myself a late xmas present. The general concensus around here seems to be that the EMX is far superior to the Ea1 and Er1 (obviously) but I get the vibe that not only is the Ea1 nowhere near the EMX but it's actually got a few major let downs. That's the impression I get anyway.

I do think that for what I have in mind for it, that the Ea1 would satisfy me but I have a feeling that i'll always be thinking hmm maybe I should have paid the bit extra. I just don't want to get the EMX and find that it really doesn't excel without its counter part, the ESX. If I can just have the EMX and be able to make cool drum patterns (not necessarily with drum sounds) then i'll be happy.

Dude, if you are paying 1800 for an ESX you have to go through EBAY or other to get one because you are getting royally rippppppped offf.


Oh and Canadian Dollars are worth just a bit more than US dollars. FYI.

I didn't say I paid that much. That's the retail price here, for new EMX and ESX's.

I paid $950 AUD for my EMX1, which is about $800 US.

That would be about the same as if I bought it from the US and had it sent over. We have to pay duty, and GST on the total amount including shipping and duty. And then I'd have to get a voltage convertor or buy a new power supply.

$500 for 2 electribes, even the old flavour, in Australia ain't a bad deal. Some go for less, some go for more.

Thanks Puppeteer..I have looked around and my music shop will sell a EMX1 to me for $950 aswell. So I guess it just depends on if I want to get the two old ones or the new one I suppose. When they get it in i'll go have a fiddle with it and see where I go from there.
