I'm curious, What types of music are you guys producing on the Oasys? I just wanted to see what types of music are represented in this forum.

I think the Oasys can do a lot of different music-types and offers a wide range of sounds and possibilities - from natural sounds to crazy electronics and experimental. I never had a synth like that!

That is true and several people here posted some of their work.. I am not sure if you did, Charlie?
But I would like to use this opportunity as well and once more:
http://blog.petermmahr.com/2007/11/09/lifes-snapshot/
track "p2/11" is 100% Oasys and consists mostly of MOD-7 factory sounds (link posted somewhere here)
track "1073" done together with Ebse is OASYS with the exception of the loop , which comes from sound wizard Eric Persing and is a Korg Wavedrum
http://blog.petermmahr.com/2007/09/13/o ... omizer-ii/
listen to the second sound file "iRandom Xsample II + KARMA", 100% OASYS. drums are getting chaotic, but I performed it live, which means I was switching scenes, drum sets, etc. Side note, most synth sounds I made by using Mr. Daz iRandom (OASYS Randomizer)
the header of this says it already:

and there are probably some more in the audio demo category:

To prove my point, here, I compared a REAL Ibanez Guitar to the OASYS STR-1 Plucked String Instrument EXi Engine, and not only could I NOT tell the difference, but the OASYS sounded BETTER than the Ibanez and I couldn't believe my ears! ...
This does not really prove your point..if you really want to prove your point, share the program you created with us.
I am one that also finds the guitars pitiful on the O compared to the XS and definately a far-cry from a real Ibanez

I was blown away with the sounds "bebe Tara" and the second sound in "several neuron sounds" @00:34-01:28,
the hoarse or husky character is really something I would love to be able to reproduce with the OASYS.
Could you describe what makes the character of these sounds?

As stated somewhere in the Neuron text on the blog. Neuron is one example of an instrument that is mostly dependent on the person using it. Therefore the above description would fit in well. If this describes the things I am doing then I would take this is a big compliment.
Concerning the reproducibility of Neuron sounds. This depends on how much of a compromise you accept. For example sound #2 of the several.mp3 is something you could do in a way in OASYS. Either within a single program or better with a combination of two or three programs.
So if you make for example a kind of Flute Program and pitch it down, make a male or mellotron choir and a synth pad, put these three sounds together in a combi and use lots of internal OASYS EFX then you can get close. What you cannot get that easy is the rough and hoarse character of the Neuron and the things that happen when you move the sticks, "bebe Tara" is a good example for this. I am not sure whether I posted the track Ebse and I recorded and which is based on this sound. Over the time you can hear how much of the sound is changed.. something you cannot do that easy with anything else then the Neuron.
But with lots of programming you can get some very nice sounds in OASYS that remind on Neuron. I would for example try to control as many parameters by the VJS and the ribbon. Maybe and if I have the time I will give something like that a try...

Thanks Peter,
I researched the Neuron in the web and now understand more, it's a real shame their business had to fail. How far did they get in fixing the initial problems in it?
I understand that the Neuron was also released in a plugin + controller form, but I guess that it would be as hard to find as the hardware version is.
I'm really intrigued about the neural network sound processing, does anyone here know of recent instruments or plugins that do neural networks similarly to the Neuron?

Hi,
I am not sure whether you surfed their forum which is quite interesting. Stephen Bernsee who was also responsible for SonicWorx software is posting under the nick "neuronaut" .. you should give especially his postings a read! If I remember correctly then he is busy with something new.. unfortunately SonicWorx never run under MacOSX as there were many tools which were unique.
Meanwhile I published the audio file Ebse and I recorded and in which Neuron was used a lot.. indeed the intial idea came from the "bebe tara" sound:

And neither under the PC I gather, but I will check the forum, thanks!
Lets hope he is working on something that will benefit us all.
That is beautiful, thank you.
I'm in progress to try and create something that reproduces that 'hoarseness', I'll let you know if I succeed.
