Difference between playing in Combi and Sequencer

My first question is: Is it possible to play in performance in sequencer mode instead of playing in combi mode?

If the answer is yes:
What are the advantages and disadvantages? ...For advantages I would definetely say working with 16 programs, and I also heard that when changing songs in seq mode, you don't have that awful "gap of sound" you hear when changing combis.

I'm kinda confused in this subject, can somebody please give me a hand?

search through some of the older posts as this has been asked loads of times in the past. In terms of the silence break in between changing songs - it can't be done!

Yes, I was seeing that while browsing the forum. But maybe you didn't understand my question, which is not solely about the silence break.

what you might have read is that you can change a single program in seq mode (one of the 16) by putting a program change message on its midi channel
this can be used for changing lead sounds or something while playing a sequence
effect routing can't be changed "on the fly" though
