mp3 bit rate???

Hi Everyone
Ive tried recording with the optional korg mp3 player several times on the highest quality setting, however the results were far from high.
I am getting 32kbs bit rate.
I noticed that the longer the song was the lower the bit rate.
Does anyone know how this works?
