software sequencer or onboard sequencer.

Post by Mivy »

First of all, I have had my TR61 for almost 2 years. Although I've come a long way in learning how to set up and record in sequencer mode, I am wondering:

IS IT EASIER AND LESS COMPLICATED TO USE A SOFTWARE PROGRAM ON THE PC TO SEQUENCE AND EDIT THAN USING THE ONBOARD SEQUENCER?

I NOTICE THAT A LOT OF YOU HERE ARE USING "CAKEWALK, CUBASE, ETC......

I HAVEN'T YET FIGURED OUT HOW TO CONVERT WHAT I'M PLAYING INTO A COMPLETE SONG AND THOUGHT MAYBE USING SOMETHING LIKE "CAKEWALK" WOULD BE MORE "USER FRIENDLY.

THANKS FOR ALL THE ANSWERS I'VE FOUND ALREADY IN THIS FORUM.

I ONLY WISH WE COULD STILL SEE SOME OF THE "OLD TUTORIALS" THAT WERE POSTED HERE LONG AGO.

In my humble opinion, there's really no comparison.
I know Sharp, and possibly some others would argue, and be justified in doing so, because it is subject to the way you work best, but for me, Sonar is faster, easier, more powerful, and the large wide screen flat panel is soooo much better than that little screen on the TR.
Just my subjective opinion.
Hope this is helpful.

I agree with Stephen, the TR can never provide the overview a computer screen gives you.
I only use the onboard Seq for quick recordings, if I want to save ideas, or just try something as quick as possible...

I agree with Jako. I used my onboard Seq. for a scratch pad. Using a program like Sonar or Cubase is a lot easier to navigate through your project. You also have the option to record audio as well as MIDI.

Yep, using a software seq. like Sonar (which I use) is MUCH better then trying to record/edit multiple tracks on the tiny TR screen. Also, as previously mentioned, most software will let you record audio/midi at the same time.

I don't feel like I wasted 2 years learning how to "tweak, edit, sequence, cue list, etc..... I just knew there had to be an easier way to get from point A to B.

So you guys reccomend SONAR?

I'll have it this weekend!

I appreciate it , Thanks for all your help guys!

I have tried a lot of sequencing on my board but it seems like whenever i'm using the tracks from the Sequencing Mode all the flavors of a patch are lost. When I'm playing the patches from the Program mode they sound so cool. When I try to use the same patches from the Combi or Sequence mode they become so dry and lose all the effects. Can anyone tell me about this. Else I don't mind sequencing from my board.

I have never used the TR's sequencer, ever. I haven't used an on-board sequencer of any sort, in at least 15 years. Right when I started using a computer (Master Tracks Pro for Mac, at the time).

Ok,
The sales guy at the local music shop says this is what I need.

http://www.musiciansbuy.com/Tascam-TNT- ... DLKIT.html

sounds like a good deal! But do I need all of this if I'm just wanting to use an external sequencer and possibly burn tracks to cd?

Any suggestions?
Do I just need to buy the US $99.00 Cubase

http://www.musiciansbuy.com/Steinberg_C ... ASESE.html

I only use my TR at home and this is just a hobby for me right now. I'm new to this, but I am going to learn how to do this if it kills me ..lol

Thanks again for all the answers i've got from all of you! :wacky:

I would also suggest you consider Ableton Live.
