Over Heating???

So,

I got my new EMX yesterday. It worked fine late into the night.

this morning I was sitting on the couch messing around with it and sometimes when i'd put my hand down on the metal casing it'd cause the screen to display the settings for some of the knobs. I'f i put pressure anywhere below the 1-16 key pads it'd make the settings for some of the knobs come up. After awhile it was doing this without any pressure at all.

but o well, it wasn't that big of a deal, i could live with it.

but then I went and hooked it up to my TR and played around for a few hours. after I'd been messing with my TR for awhile I went back to the EMX and realized none of the synth knobs or the arpeggiator worked.

so, i left it sitting on my desk all day, came home tonight, turned it on, and it works!

so is this a common thing or is my box just a fluke thing? either way I guess i'll be calling guitar center and probably replacing it this weekend if it stops working again.

it´s not a common issue at all...I have my electribes for almost 2 years now and never experience nothing similar...even using it for hours

I don´t think is due overheating...it´s true that tube electribes generate a considerable amount of heat but nothing to be alarmed for...just as any low voltage tube device...

I suggest you to check the unit leaving it working for several hours to see if it reproduces the same erratic behaviour and if it does then ask for a new unit at guitar center...It´s seems to be a defected unit

ya definetly not... I sometimes leave both of mine on over night to use as space heaters (serious) and get on and play in the morning... and all my gear is packed into a case and gets very warm...

actually the warmest part of the electribes is actually having the power supplies in a place that gets no air circulation...

also a fellow electriber, novatron, told me once how he like never turns his units off.

yea,

im going to leave it on while im at school and we'll see what happens.

it still displays a random knob setting if i tap it on the side though. I read about knob "jitters" but doesn't that issue usually arise after the electribe is older and dirtier?

yep, dead again....

so i guess i'll just be playing around with the drums until saturday

what a shame... i hope the replacement works fine.

this is crap...

guitar center said they'd be willing to let me exchange my EMX for their floor model...

the guy on the phone claims the EMX is discountinued???

There floor model works but its got scratches and knicks and what not.

so what do i do? call korg?

i seriously have no clue... if Guitarcenter would give me a huge discount i'd take the floor model. otherwise this makes me mad.

it is yes... tell them you refuse to trade it without either a discount or their highest warranty. Mention that the electribes have a thing that's called "knob jitters" which happens from inaccurate use of the unit and the most common place they get this is as store display models.

I actually bought my esx as the floor model with a 10% discount(bullshit considering it came with nothing and it wasn't even it's original power supply, it was like a radias power supply I think)

but yes also korg is required to replace faulty units....

I could have ordered an EMX 3 months ago, they are discontinued?!

wow...

I was getting so many mixed views on all this.

first, i called guitar center and they said that the EMX is discountinued.

so then i called another dealer and they said the same thing.

so then i called korg, the lady didn't know anything about the EMX but she looked it up for me and said that the electribes aren't discontinued, just on back order.

so0o0o, i called guitar center back up and told them korg says they still make electribes. so the guy at guitarcenter said once I come in they'll order a new one for me cause they cant order a new one untill i bring in mine.

its just crazy...

but when the electribe isn't overheated and not working its amazing...

Dont worry, they like to do a menage a tröis...ESX1 and EMX1 make the perfect companion each other, just add a Kaosspad3 and you're set.

To Oldgeezers940...it seems to be the infamous "knob Jitter", very common on the Electribes, if you're still under warranty take the unit to any service center (Korg) and they'll fix for free.
